The Team
KPMG's Infrastructure and Government (I&G) strategy team wants the right candidate for their London-based team. The team needs professional, talented individuals who have a passion for identifying, creating and delivering innovative solutions for public and private sector clients.

The I&G Strategic Advisory Services (SAS) team works with government and industry on the biggest, most complex and pressing strategic, policy and programme implementation issues.

Our work currently focuses on the fast-changing and technology-impacted areas of public spending, such as smart infrastructure and mobility, as well as transformation and investment in public services market (electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, connected autonomous vehicles (CAVs), mobility as a service, electric vehicle technology and integrated transport systems), the rail and road markets (as they embrace next generation technologies e.g. High Speed Rail and SMART motorways) and transformation of government services (e.g. probation services). Practitioners will have the opportunity to advise on strategic options, business cases and operating model strategy to public sector, executive agency and corporate clients.

It’s an exciting time to join our team as we are growing rapidly and working on some fascinating public issues – including: the rise of autonomous vehicles, growing regional trade, and the future of the probation service. The team blends this with support to the largest infrastructure operators and infrastructure programmes in the UK.

The Role
Assistant Managers perform a critical role contributing to client workstreams, supporting business development and helping our team to grow and develop.

Key areas where Assistant Managers contribute to the team include:
Conduct data analysis on workstreams of large projects or across the whole scope on smaller projects
Plan and carry out structured interviews with client staff and other key stakeholders in unfamiliar industries or situations
Participate in generating hypotheses and play a role in storyboarding client deliverables
Be comfortable handling ambiguity and changing client demands
Work effectively with client staff whilst working on engagements and act as an ‘ambassador’ for KPMG
Develop solutions to complex problems and challenge the thinking of more senior colleagues and clients
Construct detailed financial / business models performing complex scenario and sensitivity analysis
Provide timely feedback and coaching to other team members
Produce client ready deliverables (slides, word documents or excel) that exceed expectations and require limited review
Demonstrate a broad interest in the I&G sector
Build and maintain a strong internal and external network
Demonstrate high levels of drive, ambition, and able to lead work at high levels of intensity
Participate in team governance activities
Contribute to personal development of the team

The Person
We are looking for applicants who display the following:
Evidence of strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities
Structured thinking skills combined with creativity
Be comfortable handling ambiguity and changing client demands
Ability to review and assess technical data and distil the key strategic insights
Ability to evaluate complex problems and support delivery of insightful recommendations that can be practically executed
Strong numerical capabilities
Excellent English written and oral communication skills
Demonstrate enthusiasm and interest in working on critical public sector issues and the delivery of the infrastructure and services that help realise public policy
Experience of working with or researching a range of stakeholders/clients and having an emerging understanding of the issues facing the infrastructure sector and/or large-scale procurements
A passion for learning and maintaining knowledge of trends in the latest thinking in the sector.
Background in relevant consultancy, commercial, strategy or academia
Professional qualification (or working towards one) or relevant postgraduate degrees welcome
A willingness to travel
