Job Description
We are looking for talented Senior Managers ideally based in our Watford office to work on our audit quality agenda. Roles include responsibility for developing audit technical guidance, liaising closely with other teams in Audit Centre of Excellence (ACE) and the audit business. Taking responsibility for technical content on the technical guidance portal and websites. Contributing technical knowledge and training to developing learning material. Building relationships with the business and being lead contact for the quality network. The role will support of the business and audit teams by working on the Department of Professional Practice (DPP) Audit helpline, and supporting Second Line Defence reviewers or In-flight reviews. As members of DPP Audit Support, you will work in an environment where teamwork, communication and project management skills are key. This role provides development opportunities and the chance to drive the audit quality agenda.


Quality agenda

- Be audit technical lead on focus areas within the quality agenda and workstreams within AQTP programme
- Work with other subject matter experts and stakeholders
- Respond to quality issues, developing appropriate practical solutions that enable teams to execute audits in general technical areas

Development of audit technical guidance

- Develop your technical knowledge in key areas to be an SME, and actively drive the quality agenda in these areas
- Draft new audit technical guidance (eg Briefings/ Directives/FAQs) and new templates and workpapers to support effective application on our audits
- Actively promote what ‘good evidence’ looks like - obtaining ‘good’ examples from the business and developing a suite of appropriate examples and case studies (effective use of eAudIT and supplementary workpapers/templates where needed)
- Update application materials as required and maintain appropriate content

Learning material

- Work with learning professionals to develop audit technical learning material, utilising the guidance and examples developed
- Prepare questions based on auditing content to be included in learning

Develop relationship with the business

- Lead contact for ‘Quality Champions’ network – Establishing network; building relationships with local champions; upskilling local Champions; facilitating 2 way dialogue on regular timely basis, ongoing maintenance of effective network.
- Targeted support for audit teams working in specific industries. Work with the business, local audit contacts and the wider quality agenda to identify needs for additional guidance/templates/examples in certain areas of the business eg FS/Insurance and sections of National Markets
- Liaise with users in the field, eg focus groups, to ensure the guidance/ support needed is addressed by DPP, identify possible improvements and future needs are anticipated
- Develop appropriate guidance/templates/examples and input to training, working with the relevant contacts in the audit practice

DPP Audit Helpline

- Discuss issues with audit teams and answering queries, drafting appropriate responses, having consulted with other members of the team if necessary

Required Qualifications and Experience

- Fully ACCA/ACA qualified or international equivalent
- Excellent audit technical knowledge and understanding of the ISAs and relevant requirements
- Recent and extensive external audit experience within a Big 4 or mid-tier firm
- A strong understanding of audit reporting tools and audit methodologies
- Experience of managing large projects or audits, including leading teams and being the first point of contact for clients (internal or external)
- Proven track record of managing large audits or complex projects, involving multiple stakeholders
- Previous experience in an audit technical support role and with developing and delivering audit technical learning material
- Pro-active and innovative approach
- Identifies and addresses current and anticipated challenges and opportunities
- Demonstrates an enthusiasm for developing people and challenging others
- Ability to build effective relationships, rapport and trust
- Ability to work independently and as a strong team player, effective cross team communication
- Ability to function effectively in changing circumstances
- Good project management skills, particularly managing stakeholders’ expectations and proactively communicating issues, solutions and progress
- Proven ability to lead and drive change initiatives to successful completion
- Develops and maintains wide networks and helps others establish useful contacts; who enjoys interaction with staff from various parts of the firm and displays a flexible approach to work
- Desire to learn new skills and challenge the status quo
- Strong multi-tasking skills
