Department Information

The Knowledge Centre of Excellence (KCoE) team is part of UK Learning. The team is responsible for knowledge, collaboration and research solutions and content that support colleagues find each other, work together, and have the most informed conversations with their clients.

The KCoE is responsible for resources such as the UK firm’s intranet (Portal), video platform, internal and client-facing collaboration sites, social collaboration capabilities, relevant mobile apps, research tools, competitive intelligence, and external content provision.

The KCoE is comprised of a blend of people based in the UK and at KPMG Global Services in Gurgaon, New Delhi.

Role & Responsibilities

The Portal Lead is a senior role within the KCoE team, responsible for leading the UK Portal team and all of their activities. The role reports directly to the UK Head of Knowledge and works closely with them, the KPMG Global Services Portal team, and the wider UK Learning Leadership team to oversee and deliver key aspects of the KCoE programme.

Key responsibilities include:

- Oversight and management of the UK Portal team and their activities.
- Oversight of Portal related services delivered through the Global Knowledge Centre of Excellence team in Gurgaon, New Delhi.
- Definition of the UK Portal strategy in line with wider Learning and Knowledge strategies. As part of this the role leads on discussions for new and emerging relevant technologies that can transform how knowledge and learning is created, captured and cascaded throughout the firm.
- Oversight and leadership of the UK Portal platform. This will involve close working with a number of other teams:
o The KCoE Knowledge Enablement team to build a close understanding of business needs and requirements, and translating these into meaningful and contextual knowledge assets on the UK Portal;
o The KCoE Collaboration team to ensure that access to relevant connectivity and collaboration tools are integrated into relevant areas of the UK Portal;
o Other groups within the firm (at a UK and Global level) who manage non-Portal knowledge repositories and content to ensure alignment and, where applicable, implementation of integration and common standards (for example in areas such as federated search, standard content governance, content surfacing across multiple solutions etc.); and
o Other parts of the UK Learning to ensure, where possible, the UK Portal supports a close and integrated approach to knowledge and learning content.
- Lead specific projects that fall into the remit of this role including upgrading the UK Portal to the latest Microsoft technologies (based on Office 365 technology). This will involve planning, management and oversight of the migration of all Portal content to the new platform, retirement of the legacy content on the current platform, and where necessary the planning and build of new content areas.
- Defining a strategy and approach to the development of internal knowledge mobile apps and delivery of content through mobile devices, via leveraging Microsoft Office 365 capabilities, native applications and responsive mobile sites.
- Management of budgets for Knowledge CoE and Learning projects with a technology element, liaising with the Head of Knowledge, Learning director leads and respective project managers to ensure project spend is forecasted, assigned, tracked and reported accurately.

Qualifications & Experience

- Bachelors’ degree in relevant field. Masters qualification is desirable but not essential.
- Extensive relevant work experience leading a team in a similar role.
- Extensive and diverse Knowledge Management solution expertise and experience, including Microsoft Office 365 technologies.
- Experience of delivering Portal-based solutions, including channel management and UI/UX design and management.
- Experience in developing and implementing knowledge related content management and content governance standards and processes.
- Knowledge of KPMG or experience of professional services desirable.


- Strong team player, with demonstrable experience of being able to collaborate and engage, especially in a distributed team environment.
- Strong influencing and negotiating skills and demonstrable stakeholder management experience (including management of senior stakeholders).
- Strong project and programme management and leadership skills.
- Ability to perform well with minimal direction or supervision and with a proactive work style.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills – with proven ability to make a high impact.
- Well organised with good prioritisation and workload management abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong people management and development skills.
