Internal Financial Investigations Senior Associate

The Team

The IFI Senior Associate is a role within the Internal Financial Investigations (IFI) team, reporting directly to the Expenses Manager. The team are responsible for carrying out internal expenses and finance related investigations for KPMG UK, and more broadly supporting the enforcement of the firm’s expenses and finance policies.

The Role
- Conduct routine reviews of spend to identify the potential risk of fraud and policy breaches using KPMG system tools.
- Conduct investigations into suspected breach of policy and inappropriate spend.
- Take joint ownership of and co-ordinate KPMG’s policy breach escalation process. Deliver continual process improvements.
- Administer the case management system to manage issues from identification through to resolution.
- Be an expert and point of contact for KPMG’s policies, especially ‘spend’ related.
- Produce regular reporting, MI and analysis on spend breaches and data
- Build close working relationships with the Finance, Fraud Investigations, Compliance, Procurement, Risk and HR teams.
- Support various Centre of Expertise (COE) areas (e.g. Travel & Procurement) in identifying and managing policy breach issues.
- Support HR and business stakeholders (i.e. PLs/HoPOs) in escalating issues and responding to appeals etc.
- Ensure that all daily, weekly and other periodic deadlines are met.
- Assist with any necessary duties, including reconciliations on an ad hoc basis.
- Deal with incoming telephone calls in a competent and courteous manner, ensuring that KPMG personnel are kept informed of developments at all stages of processing/investigation.
- Making recommendations for changes to existing controls to improve effectiveness and/or efficiency to the Expenses/Spend business procedures or systems.
- Provide best practice guidance and support to the business in relation to the use of the Expenses system and clarification of the policies.
- Remain up to date with legislation changes that may impact upon the Expenses policy, tax treatment and other legislative changes that may require system changes.
- To assist with the running of the section by contributing to the overall workload as directed and providing cover during periods of absence of any team member.
- Other ad hoc administration duties.

The Person
- Previous experience of investigations or compliance work preferable.
- Previous experience of conducting investigative interviews preferable.
- 5 GCSEs / O Levels (or equivalent) including Maths and English at grades A-C.
- Strong analytical and numeracy skills.
- Ability to challenge individuals at all levels in a professional manner.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- Knowledge of KPMG’s Finance policies, processes & systems preferable.
- Resilience and a proactive approach to overcoming obstacles.
- Ability to manage workload independently and deliver results without prompting.
