KPMG undertakes client risk assessments (CRA), including Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Know Your Client (KYC) as part its process for accepting clients.

The Client Assessment Team forms a key part of this process and sits within Q&RM, led by the Chief Risk Officer. The team will also have a reporting line into the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO). KPMG’s Q&RM function is responsible for monitoring the firm’s and its individuals’ compliance with the firm’s professional risk management and quality control policies, procedures and guidance.

The Client Assessment Team is a newly formed team, with both onshore and offshore components and undertakes thorough client risk assessments to help KPMG to appropriately identify, document and assess financial, reputational, money laundering and regulatory risks associated with its clients.
The CRA will include completion of AML KYC in line with the Money Laundering (Transfer of the Payer) Regulations 2017 and associated industry guidance. Case Assessment is the first step in this process.

The Role

The Case Assessment team handles all incoming CRA requests, client outreach and initial money laundering risk assessments. This role is responsible for day to day workflow management, reporting into the Client Assessment Team Manager and has line management responsibility.
The team triages and prioritises incoming CRA requests, identifying KYC requirements within the SLA agreed with the business.
Clients will be contacted by the team through an online portal to obtain the required KYC information.

You will be responsible for an initial risk assessment based on a pre-determined criteria to determine how each CRA request will be allocated, supervising data gathering, collation, checking and analysis related to these processes; and for identifying issues and developing recommendations from the information produced by the team. There will be a requirement for independently undertaking analytical and research based work, with guidance available as required.
You will also be the initial point of escalation of CRA / AML related queries from the Assistant Managers both in India and the UK. You will be communicating with the wider business and clients through both email and telephone with a customer focus and high quality of service.

This is a performance manager role whereby you will be responsible for the development and performance reviews of the analysts in your team through goal setting, appraisals and honest conversations throughout the year.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities are as follows:

- Proactive first response (triaging) to each new incoming case, analysing what is outstanding and providing guidance back to client teams to assist them with complying with the requirements
- Monitor allocation of work across the Client Assessment Team
- Liaising with client teams on CRA’s, guiding them to provide the CRA Central team required information.
- Ensuring the work is carried out in accordance with the existing guidance, within SLA’s and to the appropriate standard.
- Providing guidance and training to the E and D1 grades in the team, managing junior team members’ performance.
- Liaising with India team to facilitate initial set up and ongoing training and support.
- Developing knowledge of the AML KYC requirements for different clients.
- Sharing knowledge through masterclasses and ongoing feedback process.
- Proposing and enabling improvements in the processes, incl. by creating a stimulating environment for team members to make recommendations.
- Providing management information on the team activities, supporting wider reporting requirements.
- Management of other projects related to CRA’s as and when required.
- Producing daily and weekly MI for the team and Risk Partners

The Person – Skills, Qualifications and Behaviours

- A strong knowledge of UK AML & KYC
- Previous Team Leader and Performance Management experience.
- Strong coaching and mentoring skills.
- Client-focused approach with a passion for delivering excellence.
- Strong communication skills – able to question effectively, listen and apply judgement.
- Strong project management skills to enable identification of required tasks and deadlines and planning and prioritisation of these tasks in an appropriate manner.
- Ability to interpret complex information and identify issues.
- The confidence to challenge the status-quo and provide fresh ideas.
- Possess an eye for detail as well as an ability to work under pressure.
- Excellent organisational, literacy and numeracy skills.
- Ability and/or prior experience in interpreting financial data is a distinct advantage.
