Job DescriptionRole:

As a Junior Project Manager within the UK IT Services Programme and projects Group, you will be expected to manage the delivery of; small IT projects; or certain products/work-streams within a larger IT project, to a predominantly UK audience.
Junior Project Managers are expected to ensure that their projects/work-streams produce the required outputs, to the required standard of quality and the within the specified constraints of time and cost.
Junior Project Managers will be expected to follow the in-house project lifecycle from inception to completion using standard project lifecycle practices and artefacts. They will be provided with guidance and support by centralised PMO and a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager to ensure key project components and artefacts are in place.
Junior Project Managers will often find themselves delivering work-streams within a project and as such will be accountable to the Project Manager or Senior Project Manager responsible for that project.

Key Responsibilities:

- prepare plans for the work-streams work and agree these with the Project Manager;
- receive authorisation to proceed from the Project Manager to create the required products;
- manage the work-stream and/or individuals responsible for delivering the product(s);
- direct, motivate, plan and monitor the work-streams work;
- take responsibility for the progress of the work-stream and use of the team resources, and initiate corrective action where necessary within the constraints laid down by the Project Manager;
- advise the Project Manager of any deviations from the plan, recommend corrective action and help prepare Exception Plans;
- pass back to the Project Manager products that have been completed and approved in line with the agreed requirements;
- ensure all Project Issues are properly reported back to the person managing the Issue Log;
- ensure the evaluation of Project Issues that arise within your work-stream and recommend action to the Project Manager;
- attend any project meetings as directed by the Project Manager;
- maintain, or ensure the maintenance of, work-stream files;
- identify and advise the Project Manager of any risks associated with the work-stream;
- ensure all identified risks are entered in the Risk Log and manage those as directed by the Project Manager;

Skills & Experience:

- ideally qualified as a Prince 2 Practitioner (or equivalent); but not essential;
- ideally educated to degree level in a business related subject or equivalent experience in a business or IT environment;
- demonstrable work-stream/project management expertise with experience of having delivered a number of project related activities;
- some knowledge of working with and delivering IT and related technologies;
- driven and enthusiastic with a ‘can-do’ attitude to get the job done in a practical and pragmatic fashion without upsetting others;
- proven written and oral communications skills and strong interpersonal skills that can be executed credibly to inspire confidence in you and the delivery of the project;
- a problem solver with a pragmatic and tenacious attitude to seek out resolutions;
- a desire to deliver a good quality output and to keep the customer happy and contented;
- experience of working in a Professional Services
