Job Description
KPMG’s Partnership Tax Team forms part of the UK firm’s in-house finance function. The team is responsible for all aspects of KPMG’s own internal tax affairs, covering corporate tax, overseas tax, VAT, employment tax and the personal tax affairs of the partners.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibility of this role is to support the senior manager in ensuring overseas tax risks are identified and where overseas corporate tax filings are required, these are submitted accurately within statutory deadlines.

Although this role focuses on overseas corporate tax issues, candidates with a strong UK corporate tax background will be suited to the role and training and support will be provided.

Mailbox Management

■ Managing the ‘UK-FM Permanent Establishment Queries Mailbox’ which involves:
■ Assessing the overseas tax risk of client teams working abroad.
■ Technical understanding of double tax treaties as well as OECD guidance.
■ Providing clear guidance to client teams and following up.
■ Referring queries to other KPMG teams as required.
■ Liaising with other KPMG member firms on local tax risks where relevant.
■ Regularly reviewing processes and identifying improvements.

Overseas Tax Compliance

■ Preparation and submission of the overseas tax returns in a number of overseas countries including the US, India and Switzerland.
■ Analysing travel data from different sources.
■ Responsible for ensuring tax payments to overseas tax authorities are made on time.
■ Liaising with and obtaining advice from overseas tax specialists.
■ Ensuring process notes are prepared and updated detailing exactly how each calculation is prepared.
■ Strong excel skills and ability to analyse information from various sources to ensure an accurate tax calculation is prepared.

Other

■ Assisting with reporting requirements in other countries.
■ Providing guidance regarding withholding tax.
■ Dealing with ad hoc projects as and when required.
■ Assessing the PE risk for other member firms when requested to do so and preparing advice.

Team Management

■ Training assistants who assist with preparation of the responses to the mailbox notifications and preparation of the overseas tax computations.
■ Reviewing all work prepared by the assistants and ensuring changes are made.

Skills required

■ ACA/CTA qualification with a background in UK corporate tax.
■ Highly numerate for preparation of computations.
■ Strong oral and written communication skills and strong excel skills.
■ Excellent team working skills, including delegation, managing and developing junior staff.
■ Commitment to ensuring the quality of work from the team is high and communication to client teams is clear and concise.
■ Excellent organisational skills are required particularly for the managing the PE mailbox in terms of prioritising important / high risk emails.
