The Role

The environment in which we operate is changing rapidly. Our client facing staff are working in a tough market and, at the same time, seeking to manage a number of significant developments in the regulatory environment. Risk management has never had such a high profile and the impact on what work we can do, and for which clients, has never been greater.

The Tax Risk Management team have an immediate opportunity for an individual to work with client facing teams across KPMG Law. Currently, there are two members of the Tax Risk Management team that are focused on helping KPMG Law – we want to expand that by bringing in someone with a “can-do” attitude that is willing to learn, come up with new ideas and generally “get stuck in”.

The Responsibilities

Key responsibilities will include:
Supporting Client Service Teams by:
o Acting as a key contact for both professional and support staff on risk management and regulatory issues (including Solicitors Regulation Authority (“SRA”) issues).
o Referring to the wider Tax Risk Management team and other professionals within the central Risk group (e.g. OGC, Ethics & Independence) where appropriate.
o Providing informal and formal training sessions to engagement teams on a variety of risk management areas.
o Assisting in raising awareness of Risk Management procedures.
o Developing specific guidance where required.
o Providing support to the COLP and COFA on SRA regulatory matters.



Other ad hoc projects as and when required.

The Person

The successful candidate will ideally:
• Have experience of working in a legal services environment, or be an existing member of the KPMG Law team, (although this isn’t a prerequisite;
• Be risk aware and have a good understanding of the regulatory environment in which we operate;
• Be self motivated: able to work alone on occasion and able to work closely with others;
• Be positive and enthusiastic in helping to raise the standards of risk management;
• Have excellent communication skills – being concise, clear and to-the-point;
• Have high levels of personal effectiveness, able to deliver messages with confidence and professionalism;
• Be confident in their ability to manage change and be resilient; and
• Be innovative in developing solutions to risk management issues, being able to analyse potentially complex situations and enjoy problem solving.
