Tax Assistant Manager - Corporate Tax Advisory, Location Flexible

Date: Jun 9, 2021

Location: Manchester, United Kingdom

Company: KPMG UK

Overview of role

We are looking for an Assistant Manager to help us manage our existing portfolio of clients and to help us win additional work in the Regional Financial Services marketplace.
The work required by the role would be varied and dynamic and would require an understanding of key UK corporate tax principles. Ideally the candidate would have some knowledge and experience of financial services however that is not essential and we would consider suitably qualified candidates who do not have financial services experience as training can be given as needed.
The role will also require the candidate to be able to work as part of a team both with more senior and more junior staff.
The Regional Financial Services Tax Team is a small, friendly and supportive team with staff members based around the country (Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Bristol). The team are used to working with each other remotely for much of the time and therefore we are open to applicants based anywhere in the UK.
The role is extremely flexible and we are open to full time or part time working. We are also open to home working, flexible working or a mix of both (we anticipate that a mix of both will be the ideal fact pattern for this role as being in the office for at least some of the time will possibly be best from a learning and development perspective).
As the team is fast growing there are excellent opportunities to progress quickly.

KPMG's Tax practice is a dynamic, successful and growing area of our business. A constantly changing and increasingly high-profile field, Tax can offer a surprisingly broad range of quality career paths to ambitious people.
The Regional Financial Services Tax team provides tax advice, compliance and audit support work to a wide range of banking, lending, wealth management, mutual, fintech and other financial service clients. The majority of our client portfolio relates to challenger banking and lending organisations but being a regional team we do have clients across the financial services spectrum.
Corporate Tax Advisors are often the main relationship holders for Tax and Legal, and work closely with other areas of the tax practice as well as Deal Advisory, Risk Consulting, Management Consulting and Audit, acting as a springboard for sales in many other areas of Tax and Legal and the rest of the firm.

The team focuses on the provision of high quality commercial advice to our clients. Our approach has as its foundation a thorough understanding of our clients’ business strategy as well as the industries in which they operate. This enables us to work in partnership with them and to provide tailored and robust tax solutions to support their corporate goals. The work focuses on corporate tax advisory services, and includes building long-lasting client relationships and coordination of all tax services to clients.

• Maintaining up to date knowledge of relevant tax issues and consideration of impact on clients
• Assisting with carrying out detailed technical research to support particular projects or queries.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

We are looking for people who are keen to work in an environment that offers plenty of opportunities for personal and professional development. Whilst working with us you will broaden your project management and technical skills and your commercial acumen. You will also have the opportunity to work with many talented people within the wider KPMG network, the financial community and other professional advisers. The person best suited to a role is someone who is bright, committed and enjoys working as part of a team.

• CTA and/or ACA/CA and/or equivalent legal/HMRC/international qualification is essential
• A commercial approach to resolving issues and providing advice
• Strong analytical skills
• History of, or a keen interest in, developing strong external and internal client relationships
• Project coordination/management skills
• Financial services experience would be great but is not necessarily required, awareness of other tax and accounting areas
