The Team

We are seeking an Assistant Manager to join our Regional Forensic team with a focus on Forensic in the Audit (FITA). Our team covers the entirety of the UK outside London, and we ccan have this role based in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham, Bristol or Reading.

This is an exciting opportunity to help build a new proposition both internally and externally and increase your expertise of fraud risks, controls and shadow investigations. There is a clear pipeline of work and this is a recognised growth area for the firm.

The Role

We are looking to build our FITA team for a number of reasons:

• To support our Audit firm in their assessment of fraud and fraud risk and improve Audit quality in this area;
• To increase our knowledge base in identifying, assessing and analysing fraud risks and fraud controls; and
• To develop and sell an external proposition to support non-audit clients with their fraud risk management controls and frameworks.

Audit support will include working as part of a Forensic FITA team:

• Proactive fraud risk reviews for audit: Reviewing the Audit team’s assessment of fraud risks, understanding audit procedures mitigating those identified risks and reviewing Audit’s assessment of laws and regulations, in particular anti-bribery and corruption and money laundering. The role may also involve assisting the Audit teams with specific procedures relating to fraud risks.

• Shadow investigations: Supporting the Audit team in responding to actual and/or suspected frauds, including undertaking shadow investigations on behalf of/in conjunction with the Audit team. This will include scoping the shadow investigation, liaising with the client’s management and external parties such as lawyers and third party investigators, reviewing the investigation undertaken by the clients and/or third party investigators, working with the audit team to identify the required additional audit procedures and reporting back to the Audit team on findings.
As an assistant manager, you will be expected to build relationships with the Audit team and be prepared to challenge their assumptions, analysis and existing ways of identifying fraud related risks alongside more senior members of the FITA team.

You will build up your knowledge of the different fraud risks (general and industry specific) impacting companies, the challenges in identifying them, case studies of identified frauds and how they were perpetrated and exposed.

The role may also require you to be involved in FITA business development activities, including marketing, knowledge sharing and practice development.

We embrace flexible-working practices. The individual will have a designated home office but will need to display a flexible attitude to working and be prepared to travel to/work at other locations within the UK and internationally. We require someone in a position to support business development activities in the Midlands and/or the South in particular.

The Person

A professional accounting qualification is preffered.

To succeed in this demanding role you will need to demonstrate the following experience and skills:
• An interest in (and ideally experience in) investigations, fraud, statutory audit, and regulatory compliance
• Strong managerial skills on projects e.g. budgeting and project management, together with experience of drafting reports and other deliverables suitable for presentation to a client
• Ability to articulate complex and technical findings in both written and oral presentations for a variety of audiences
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and an enquiring mind
• Strong team-working skills and the ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure is essential
• Confidence and ability to quickly establish credibility with clients (both internally ie Audit teams and externally) and to challenge both externally and internally
• An enthusiasm to get involved in marketing activity and in developing the Forensic practice
