A role is available immediately within the Corporate Tax Central Technical team in Manchester which is part of the Tax Pensions & Legal (“TPL”) Professional Practice Group. We are flexible on location and would happily consider any strong candidates who are London based.

The Corporate Tax Central Technical team is focused on supporting the Corporate Tax practice by providing technical assistance and resources to support the wider business in delivering work to clients. The team also contribute to the firms thinking on Corporate Tax related policy and technical developments and draft articles for both external and internal audiences on technical matters.

The position would suit someone with a corporate tax advisory background with strong technical skills and a wide general interest in tax technical and policy developments. As well as having the ability to interpret legislation and case law effectively it is important that candidates are able to communicate complex issues simply and clearly to a general audience.

· Broaden and deepen their corporate tax knowledge
· Be an integral part of the firm’s thinking on emerging technical and tax policy issues
· Develop their business writing skills by drafting summaries of technical matters for internal and external audiences
· Widen your network within KPMG and in particular develop an understanding of who the key technical specialists are within Corporate Tax and other areas of TPL and establish contacts with technical specialists in KPMG overseas offices
· Develop a thorough understanding of our Knowledge Management (KM) systems and practices.

Applicants for the role may be interested in building a career in a technical and knowledge management role or just looking to develop technically with a view to returning to a client facing role.

Responsibilities
· Draft technical content for distribution internally and externally – this could include headlines (e.g. case summaries), deeply technical content (e.g. a technical manual on a specific area of tax law), feeding into consultations on tax policy matters, budget commentaries.
· Support client facing staff in creating technical content for distribution internally and externally.
· Monitor external corporate tax news and identify relevant developments and announcements.
· Support knowledge management initiatives including helping to develop new tools and resources to support the Corporate Tax practice in delivering quality advice to clients efficiently.
· Attend technical meetings, conferences webinars and help document key points, actions and disseminate knowledge across the firm.
· Work with the Corporate Tax practice and Learning & Development to design and deliver effective training that meets business needs.
· Review and update TPL Portal pages and create new Portal content in line with TPL strategy.
· Collaborate and network with colleagues across TPL to identify and share best practice.
· Delegate work to junior members of the team and provide support and coaching.

The successful candidate will ideally:
· Be technically qualified (CTA/ICAS/ICAEW or equivalent) with recent client-facing experience;
· Have a strong attention to detail and high personal standards for delivering high quality work on time;
· Have a real interest in tax and the potential implications for KPMG and our clients of the many developments and changes that are taking place;
· Enjoy researching and analysing tax law and cases;
· Be able to understand complex tax technical issues quickly, to a level where they can communicate them clearly to audiences of differing experience and expertise.
· Be independent. Whilst this role will be supported by staff at more senior grades who will provide guidance and supervision, we would expect candidates to be able manage themselves to deliver high quality work on time.
· Be proactive in seeking guidance as required, seeking new challenges and supporting others in the team.
· Have strong communication skills in a variety of media, including being able to explain complex concepts in a straightforward way (e.g. using flow charts and thinking trees) and adapt communication style to suit the audience. Strong written communication skills are essential to the role.
· Be confident in dealing with personnel at all levels.
· Be positive and enthusiastic about sharing knowledge and promoting good communication.
· Have a good working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint and able to produce professional looking documents independently.
