Our team is looking for a Manager with either significant experience of preparing the technical aspects of R&D claims, or from a strong scientific/engineering background (project manager or equivalent). The role sits in our Corporates performance group and works with the national IRI Tax practice. You will be required to use your R&D knowledge and technical experience to help our clients in make claims for R&D Tax relief across a wide spectrum of industry sectors. The role will may involve some travel to attend meetings at client sites.

Role and Responsibilities:

- Work with the engagement team to develop claim methodologies and prepare R&D tax relief claims for submission to HMRC.
- Lead the process of performing technical interviews to assess projects for R&D eligibility.
- Prepare (or manage the process for preparing) summary descriptions of the work being undertaken within complex projects in straightforward language that is clear to understand to be submitted to the HMRC.
- Manage overall client engagements, including liaising with KPMG tax/costing colleagues and client staff to ensure correct quantification of R&D claims.
- Liaise with HMRC specialists to facilitate the agreement of R&D claims.
- Help to establish and maintain strong client relationships with both existing and new clients.
- Lead in progressing business development opportunities and to pitch for work with both new and existing clients.

Skills and Qualifications:

- Highly client-centric - able to lead technical discussions and explain complex legislative concepts to scientists / engineers in industry.
- Ideally a detailed working knowledge of the technical R&D criteria and its application to science/engineering activities; alternatively, significant industry experience in a field of science/technology and ability to rapidly grasp new technical concepts.
- Must be capable of producing documentation efficiently/rapidly and to a high level of quality and readability.
- Must be able to demonstrate project management skills and an ability to manage own workload well, as well as delegating to staff members.
- Must be able to understand key tax / costing concepts relevant to R&D claim preparation, as well as the capability to work within cross-disciplinary teams.
