Manager – Family Office and Private Client Tax Central Technical

Introduction
We are looking for an ambitious Manager (C Grade) to join our Family Office & Private Client (FO&PC) Tax Central Technical knowledge team.
Applicants should have experience of Private Client tax, a genuine interest in government tax policy and be passionate about making a difference to how the FO&PC Tax Central Technical team builds and manages its tax knowledge.
The role would suit an existing Manager with strong relevant experience in FO&PC tax advisory work and ideally some tax policy experience.

The FO&PC Tax Central Technical team is focused on supporting the FO&PC tax practice providing technical assistance and resources to support and grow the FO&PC business.

The role
The role is an opportunity for an individual to develop a strategic market focus and strong tax technical skills understanding complex law and practice, translating and delivering these in user friendly summaries. These are essential skills to be an outstanding tax adviser.

This is an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to:
• Broaden and deepen their tax knowledge
• Be an integral part of the firm’s thinking on emerging technical and tax policy issues
• Develop their business writing skills by drafting summaries of technical matters for internal and external audiences
• Build their network and work with a range of senior technical experts to create comprehensive technical resources
• Develop a thorough understanding of our Knowledge Management (KM) systems and practices.
What will my responsibilities be?
• Helping to prepare and maintain issues led material with a commercial focus such as Internal Briefing Notes and technical analysis that consolidate the firm’s technical knowledge on specific topics
• Developing deep expertise in specific subject matter areas thereby becoming a ‘Subject Matter Expert’
• Producing curated summaries of technical materials
• Producing commercially relevant digital training materials on tax technical topics
• Drafting articles on developments for internal and external audiences including material published in our external publication Tax Matters Digest
• Involvement in the Tax Policy Cycle (e.g. Budget and draft legislation) analysis and workstreams resulting from this
• Drafting responses to HMT/HMRC consultations on new proposals
• Supporting knowledge management initiatives
• Responding to ad hoc technical queries from the national FO&PC team
• Attending technical meetings and summarising key points for sharing more widely

What are we looking for in the successful candidate?

The successful candidate will ideally
• Be technically qualified (CTA/ICAS/ICAEW or a solicitor with relevant tax experience) with client-facing experience in FO&PC and some tax policy experience would be beneficial
• Have a strong attention to detail and high personal standards for delivering high quality work on time
• Have a real interest in tax and the potential implications for KPMG and our clients of the many developments and changes that are taking place
• Enjoy researching and analysing tax law and cases
• Be able to understand complex tax technical issues quickly, to a level where they can communicate them clearly to audiences of differing experience and expertise
• Be proactive in seeking guidance as required, seeking new challenges and supporting others in the team
• Have strong communication skills in a variety of media, including being able to explain complex concepts in a straightforward way and adapt communication style to suit the audience. Strong written communication skills are essential to the role
• Be confident in dealing with personnel at all levels
• Be positive and enthusiastic about sharing knowledge and promoting good communication
• Have a good working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint and able to produce professional looking documents independently
