Introduction
We are looking for an ambitious Manager to join our Corporate Tax Central Technical team.
Applicants should have a genuine interest in tax and be passionate about making a difference to how the Firm manages its Corporate Tax knowledge.
The role would suit someone with a flair for business writing and a wide general interest in technical and policy developments. In depth technical expertise is not required as the role is with guidance and supervision (as necessary); what is more important is the ability to communicate complex issues simply and clearly to a general audience.
The successful candidate will be expected to help source new knowledge and generate ideas for new or improved resources that should be produced to support client service teams.

Corporate Tax Central Technical - who we are and what we do?
The Corporate Tax Central Technical team is focused on supporting the Corporate Tax practice by providing technical assistance and resources to support the wider business in delivering work to clients, including collecting and adding new items to the KnowledgeBase and Corporate Tax Toolkit and producing various other materials ranging from On a Page summaries to standard appendices to very detailed manuals that consolidate the Firm’s knowledge in a particular area. The team will also work closely with the separate Tax Policy team on the Firm’s response to new tax developments including the annual budget and Finance Bill process.
The role will provide the successful candidate with a technical development opportunity which can act as a springboard to further progression in client facing roles and creates strong advocates in the business for knowledge sharing and use of CTCT resources.

This is an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to:
• Broaden and deepen their corporate tax knowledge
• Be an integral part of the firm’s thinking on emerging technical and tax policy issues
• Develop their business writing skills by drafting summaries of technical matters for internal and external audiences
• Help build an internal network within KPMG and in particular develop an understanding of who the key technical specialists are within Corporate Tax and other areas of T&L and establish contacts with technical specialists in KPMG overseas offices
• Develop a thorough understanding of our Knowledge Management (KM) systems and practices.

What will my responsibilities be?
• Developing CTCT branded technical materials, including:
o High level on-a-page style papers and flowcharts summarising key CT rules;
o Standard appendices on specific CT topics for use in client reports; and
o Deep technical reference guides (e.g. manuals, practice notes, survival guides) on specific areas of the CT rules;
o Issues-led connected tax advisory content spanning different areas of T&L
• Keeping maintained content, including the corporate tax toolkit and internal portal pages, up to date and uploading new content to the knowledgebase so that it reflects the latest tax developments and internal know-how.
• Supporting the team with producing internal and external newsletters and this will involve checking various sites to identify all developments and carrying out the first filter of what is important and needs to be disseminated more widely. As such you will be one of the first people to know what is going on in the Corporate Tax world. You will assist with pulling the various articles together ensuring the format is correct and compliant.
• Tracking the progress of significant corporate tax cases and legislative developments providing timely updates to interested parties.
• Helping build the firm’s repository of precedent technical analysis by reviewing precedent materials submitted to the CTCT team and drafting anonymised technical summaries of these materials for the Knowledgebase.
• Engaging with members of the CT business in order to conduct targeted “harvesting” of additional precedent technical analysis and insights, including:
o Attending local team meetings (and promoting submission of materials);
o Fostering relationships with relevant CT professionals;
o Sitting down with them to discuss their “current matters”;
o Following up to ensure any relevant materials are submitted.
• Helping to produce digital learning on CT technical topics to support increased remote working.
• Performing technical research for more senior members of the CTCT team.
• Attend technical meetings, conferences & webinars and help document key points, actions and disseminate knowledge across the firm.
• Supporting other knowledge management initiatives (e.g. developing toolkit or portal pages for new topics, developing excel calculation or compliance tools, embedding technical flowcharts in compliance processes).
What are we looking for in the successful candidate?

The successful candidate will ideally:
• Be technically qualified (CTA/ICAS/ICAEW or a solicitor with relevant tax experience) with recent client-facing experience in Corporate Tax;
• Have a strong attention to detail and high personal standards for delivering high quality work on time;
• Have a real interest in tax and the potential implications for KPMG and our clients of the many developments and changes that are taking place;
• Enjoy researching and analysing tax law and cases;
• Be able to understand complex tax technical issues quickly, to a level where they can communicate them clearly to audiences of differing experience and expertise.
• Be highly self-motivated. Very few knowledge tasks have “hard” deadlines in the same way as client work. So our team members have to be able to push themselves to deliver output expeditiously and then move on to the next task.
• Be independent. Whilst this role will be supported by staff at more senior grades who will provide guidance and supervision, we would expect candidates to be able manage themselves to deliver high quality work on time.
• Be proactive in seeking guidance as required, seeking new challenges and supporting others in the team.
• Have strong communication skills in a variety of media, including being able to explain complex concepts in a straightforward way (e.g. using flow charts and thinking trees) and adapt communication style to suit the audience. Strong written communication skills are essential to the role.
• Be confident in dealing with personnel at all levels.
• Be positive and enthusiastic about sharing knowledge and promoting good communication.
• Have a good working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint and able to produce professional looking documents independently.
