Job DescriptionA role is available immediately, within the TPL Professional Practice Group with a focus on supporting the business on people services (“PS”) and private client advisory (“PCA”) tax related policy and technical developments.

If you have an inquisitive mind and enjoy being at the forefront of delivering advice about tax technical and policy developments, then this role is for you. The PPG team exists to deliver knowledge to the business with a commercial focus. In depth technical expertise is not required as the role is with guidance and supervision (as necessary). What is more important is being interested in tax and tax policy, be able to review and assess information accurately to understand its meaning, sometimes in a short space of time, and to be able flex the way you communicate complex issues to different audiences.

This role will provide an opportunity to:

- Develop tax technical knowledge which should lead to you becoming a recognised expert in topical private client and people services issues
- Develop great communication skills
- See tax policy develop and then understand how to apply that to real life client situations, current issues being considered by the team are the taxation of trusts, tax and the lifecycle of a business, employee share awards in the hands of internationally mobile employees, tax efficient structuring of management equity on transactions and the ongoing public debate on what modern working practices mean for how labour is taxed in the 21st century
- Work with key technical specialists within the PCA and PS businesses and hence build a strong network within KPMG nationally

The expected duration of time in the PPG group will be approximately 12-18 months. For internal candidates the time in PPG will therefore be structured as a secondment.

Key responsibilities

- Research new developments affecting the taxation of individuals and trusts
- Monitor external news/websites to identify developments and announcements and communicate news to the business quickly in a clear and concise manner
- Assist with understanding how new tax rules are going to impact our clients and communicating that change to clients
- Assisting with drafting responses on Government consultations
- Managing and updating tax content on KPMG’s website
- Help identify content for training for the national team

The successful candidate will;
- Be technically qualified (CTA/ICAS/ICAEW or equivalent) with recent client-facing experience;
- Have a real interest in tax and the potential implications for KPMG and our clients of the many developments and changes that are taking place.
- Enjoy researching and analysing tax law and cases, with guidance from more senior grades.
- Be able to understand complex tax technical issues quickly, to a level where they can communicate them clearly to audiences of differing experience and expertise.
- Be independent. Whilst this role is fully supported, with guidance and supervision as required, we would expect candidates to be able manage themselves to deliver high quality work on time.
- Be proactive in seeking guidance as required, seeking new challenges and supporting others in the team.
- Have strong communication skills in a variety of media, including being able to explain complex concepts in a straightforward way. Strong written skills are particularly important.
- Be confident in dealing with personnel at all levels.
- Be positive and enthusiastic about sharing knowledge and promoting good communication.
- Have a good knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
