Sustainability and Responsible Investment Manager

The Team

We are currently looking for an experienced manager to join our Sustainability and Responsible Investment team to manage engagements for large corporate clients, providing advisory and assurance related services over Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices and reporting.

As a manager in the Sustainability and Responsible Investment team you will be responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of assurance, responsible investment and sustainability strategy related projects for cross-sector clients, including those in financial services, energy and natural resources, telecoms, retail and property management industries. You will be part of a collaborative team in a fast paced and challenging environment advising clients on complex and emerging sustainability challenges. You will be required to manage a portfolio of large corporate clients across multiple sectors as a sustainability and ESG subject-matter expert.

Ideally, you will also have significant experience in delivering end-to-end assurance engagements that cover a wide variety of topics such as Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, waste, water, community investment, sustainable supply chains, health and safety (H&S), diversity, gender pay gap and responsible investing. You will be expected to manage the risk process for each engagement, ensuring ethics and independence are upheld and contracting is completed in a timely and appropriate manner.

The Role:

In this role you will be responsible for the following:

•Managing a portfolio of existing sustainability and responsible investment clients across multiple sectors, maintaining first point of contact with key stakeholders on the client delivery team.

•Providing advice to clients on sustainability and ESG-related topics including materiality assessments, green bonds, ESG risk integration and responsible investment.

•Maintaining an awareness of specific industry issues in relation to ESG e.g. rising fuel prices, circular economy, human rights, water and waste management, etc. and their impact on asset owners, asset managers and investee companies.

•Maintaining awareness of emerging reporting/legislative requirements (e.g. Task Force for Climate-related Financial Disclosures, SECR, (Companies Act 2006). Providing advice to clients on how they can best prepare for upcoming changes.

•Driving the sustainability advisory service line, helping to deliver proposals and manage the delivery of engagements.

•Audit planning and delivery performed in accordance with ISAE 3000 and 3410 and the firm’s quality standards.

The Person

We are looking for someone who ideally has the following experience but we are willing to offer training and support for some areas:

•Understanding of industry reporting frameworks such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G4 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines and the GHG Protocol.

•Ability to manage teams conducting testing across multiple sustainability engagements across a range of sustainability/SME topics simultaneously.

•Managing engagement budgets, profitability and any fee overruns.

•Planning and monitoring staff resourcing/utilisation throughout the busy season to meet both engagement and business requirements.

•Reviewing the work of junior team members, ensuring work is produced to high quality and is in line with KPMG standards.

•Coaching, supporting and managing staff performance, providing open and honest feedback, helping team members to build their sustainability skills.

•End to end project management of sustainability tender requests including attendance at pitches where requested by the client as part of the tender process.

•Understanding of ethics and independence and contracting.

We are looking for someone who has the following technical experience:

•Significant experience (minimum 4 years) in a sustainability/environmental/responsible investment related consultancy field, including experience of delivering sustainability assurance engagements for global FTSE 100 clients.

•Knowledge of the risks and reporting requirements across a variety of sustainability / responsible investment topics.

•Strong presentation skills and the confidence to facilitate meetings and interviews both internally and externally.

•Outstanding communication and reporting writing skills and ability to influence and deal with senior stakeholders.

•IT literacy with significant experience of Excel/Word/Powerpoint/E-audit.

•A passion for sustainability, environmental and responsible investment issues.

•A 2:1 degree or above from a recognised university or institution
