Job Description
Role summary

This is a challenging role working within the National Markets team and leading Infrastructure, Government and Health segment with responsibility for Central Government (including key Whitehall Departments such as the Home Office, Ministry of Justice, and Ministry of Defence), Transport (including DFT, TFL and the wider travel sector), IBC and Business Services sector marketing.

Reporting to the Head of National Markets Marketing, the Senior Manager – IGH, will be responsible for leading the G&I marketing team – to both improve the firm’s position in the market and to ensure consistency with KPMG’s ‘One Firm’ market-facing approach. The role will involve being part of the NM Marketing Management team, also working closely with the lead partner for IGH on overall business strategy and implementation.

The role will also work closely with the five Regional Marketing Senior Managers, to ensure campaigns for local government, health and infrastructure adequately support regional opportunities.


The Senior Manager will be a capable individual with a high level of emotional intelligence, commerciality and sales-savviness. You will be able to balance the overall goals of IGH with the needs of the IGH sectors and individual accounts, and to make sure all marketing activity within the group aligns with the firm’s overall priorities.

Given the breadth of the sectors, you will be comfortable with running multiple projects at once, striking a balance between getting involved in the detail when necessary whilst maintaining a broad, strategic view on the other.

This balance must be achieved at all times, so you will be flexible and agile, able to act under pressure with grace and a sense of humour, with the ability to delegate and monitor appropriately.

You will, above all, need to display and maintain high levels of energy and drive in order to ensure projects are delivered in timely fashion with the maximum impact and feedback to the business.

Key functional aims of this role

•Responsible for supporting the Head of National Markets Marketing to evolve and execute marketing strategy within IGH, ensuring it remains aligned to the overall KPMG marketing plan.
- Working closely with other members of the Marketing team, in particular the Capabilities team and Global sector teams, to ensure all programmes are joined up, sponsored and delivered on budget, monitored and measured in line with the firm’s strategy.
- Driving better connections between regional marketing and IGH opportunities across private and public sector.
- Prioritising marketing campaigns and proposition support for the key fields of play, identified by the National Markets Leadership team as critical to both current and future revenue streams.
- Supporting the management of the National Markets marketing team, including conflict resolution, personal development.
- Supporting two-way communication with IGH Partner & Director teams and business development to ensure marketing programmes and campaigns are understood and leveraged as well as acting on feedback from the front line.
- Reporting to the Head of National Markets Marketing regularly and/or as the situation demands.
- Acting as an ambassador at all times as to the capabilities of the Marketing function to internal clients and stakeholders.
- Responsible for the day to day management of the IGH marketing team.

Reports and Accountability

This role reports to the Head of National Markets Marketing. It will also support in managing a marketing team of four individuals.

You will be expected to work autonomously within the firm’s overall strategic priorities and direct support from other members of marketing to implement initiatives.

Core technical competencies and required level of competence

- You are required to become a champion for the KPMG brand and effective proposition development, demonstrating ideas for advancing the brand, leading workshop sessions with the business, educating the junior team and other KPMG people.
- You will be an expert on marketing communications in the digital world, setting strategy across the business (relationship development programmes, sectors and service lines), engaging with the business and BD to ensure key messages and client issues are effectively presented. You will be adept at managing and translating complex issues for diverse audiences.
- You will be able to develop, enhance and execute relationship-building and revenue-generating programmes, acting within the strategic aims of the business to deepen and extend client relationships.
- You will use your deep understanding of business trends and issues to develop strategies which make a positive impact in our priority sectors and accounts and add value to the business. You will identify and instigate third-party affiliations to ensure KPMG is the partner of choice.
- You will direct the marketing strategy and planning process, managing budgets and engaging with the business to determine the effectiveness of marketing spend. You will also be responsible for producing business cases for exceptional spend.

Candidate requirements

- BA university degree or equivalent
- Professional marketing qualification (CIM / IDM) preferred
- A good general knowledge of the business, economic, political and social issues prevalent within the UK, Europe and internationally
- Previous experience of marketing in a professional services organisation is highly desirable
- Demonstrable experience in all key functional marketing areas
- Must be able to respond to all Core Technical and Behavioural Competencies (detailed above)
- Highly proficient in all MS Office packages (including Powerpoint) and knowledge of CRM systems
- At interview, you will be able to demonstrate good knowledge of KPMG’s key strengths and brand proposition
- You will also be able to offer constructive commentary on some of the firm’s key marketing programmes as viewed from the public domain and offer suggestions as to how you might create transformative change to IGH.
