Senior Manager - Insurance Risk

Roles and Responsibilities

Advising clients within the Insurance sector on risk and capital management topics including:


Risk Management Framework design and effectiveness


Risk Function Target Operating Models and effectiveness of the three lines of defence


Risk appetite and its use in business decision making


Comprehensive and effective risk reporting (both first and second line)


Technical risk processes


Management of solvency, liquidity, market, credit, and operational risk


Risk and corporate governance practices


Financial Risks from Climate Change and the wider ESG agenda


Stress testing, capital management and ORSA


Investment risk management including the Prudent Person Principle


Responding to new and emerging regulatory requirements


Delivering client engagements, working in both small sized teams and larger, multi-disciplinary teams.






Leading client meetings and liaising with senior client stakeholders


Being responsible for the team’s production of engagement deliverables including delegation of activities, quality review, and engagement with Engagement Leader


Providing subject matter expertise on a broad range of risk management topics


Working with other KPMG teams to offer clients value adding multi-disciplinary advice


As a senior individual, supporting the efficient and effective running of the Insurance Risk Team






Supporting/coaching junior team members


Playing an active role in shaping the direction of the team


Liaising with senior individuals from other teams (Banking, Asset Management, Internal Audit, Deal Advisory) to identify opportunities to broaden KPMG’s offering to clients


Supporting the go-to-market activities of the Insurance Risk Team






Identifying topics of interest to clients and pro-actively discussing these with key client stakeholders


With other team members, establishing propositions and solutions linked to core risk management advisory topics and market hot topics


Providing input and support in responding to client Requests for Proposal (RFPs)


Liaising with industry contacts to promote KPMG Insurance Risk Team brand and the services we offer


Qualifications and SkillsStrong understanding of technical risk management in the Insurance Industry (with a preference for financial risk and capital management)


Strong understanding of a range of other risk management topics listed in the ‘The Role - responsibilities’ section


Strong understanding of businesses, structures, governance frameworks, and process and control infrastructures of firms in the Insurance sector.


Strong communication skills and ability to influence and deal with senior individuals.


Experience and Background7-10 years’ experience in a financial service role with specific experience in either risk management consulting or within a Risk Function


Educated to degree level or equivalent


Professional risk management qualification preferred (e.g. FRM, IRM etc.)


Strong knowledge of relevant regulatory rules for risk management but crucially practical application within the Insurance industry.


Strong understanding of the application of risk management practices within a range of Insurance companies preferred


The ability to evaluate technical issues, analyse facts, consult, and deliver solutions to clients.


Excellent communication and presentation skills, including an ability to communicate well with clients (internal and external) in writing and verbally.


Experience in working with and leading teams, and the ability to work independently.
