KPMG International is the entity with which all member firms of the KPMG network of independent firms are affiliated. KPMG member firms provide audit, tax and advisory services to clients around the globe.
The International Office of the General Counsel (‘IOGC’) is a team based in five countries. The team provides legal advice on key strategic issues for, and supports the execution of key business decisions made by, KPMG International. It also supports KPMG International and the KPMG global network in dealing with legal, regulatory and reputational issues and risks.
The KPMG International hotline is a vehicle for KPMG personnel, clients and other third parties (such as suppliers, contractors, sub-contractors, external consultants, alliance partners, or other third party resource) to confidentially report concerns they have relating to certain areas of activity by any KPMG International entity, activities of KPMG firms or KPMG personnel.
The role is a senior one and will involve having overall responsibility for managing the KPMG International Hotline. This will include recommending how hotline reports should be investigated and, from time to time, leading investigations of hotline matters. The role will report into the Deputy General Counsel.
The role will require regular interaction with senior leadership of KPMG International and KPMG member firms, as well as with the investigation lawyers in the IOGC team.

Key aspects of the role will include:
- Overall responsibility for managing the KPMG International hotline
- Regularly liaise with senior KPMG International, member firm leadership, IOGC leadership and IOGC investigation lawyers on hotline matters
- Lead hotline investigations as agreed with IOGC leadership, including instructing external counsel where necessary
- Present to Global and Regional leadership as appropriate on KPMGI Hotline results, trends and actions taken to mitigate areas of concern
- Overall responsibility for reviewing from time to time, enhancing and managing KPMGI Hotline processes, including any changes to KPMG International policies which relate to the hotline
- Oversee relationship with third party hotline provider Clearview e.g. contracting, IT security audits, content change
- Oversee development of training and other content that promotes the KPMG International hotline and ‘raising your hand’ e.g. Acting with Integrity Training
- Support Global Head of People on initiatives leveraging experience from hotline
- Train / educate other KPMG professionals on how to operate a local firm hotline
- Liaise with hotline colleagues around the KPMG world and externally to share best practices
- Manage hotline support team of two personnel
- Some international travel may be required.
The Person
- Qualification, Skills and Experience required
- We are looking for a qualified lawyer, of approximately 10 years PQE (or equivalent, if not UK qualified), with significant experience running a hotline program and/or in the area of internal investigations. A successful candidate is likely to have or be able to demonstrate:
- Excellent legal technical skills
- Substantial experience of working as part of a legal or hotline team in relation to managing and investigating hotline and whistleblower complaints. This experience may have been gained at a top law firm or in an equivalent in-house position
- A track record of making sound ethical decisions and exercising balanced judgment
- An understanding of business drivers affecting, and legal, regulatory and business risks faced by, large global organizations
- Awareness of own strengths and areas for development
- Ability to work flexibly and collaboratively as part of a supportive team while taking responsibility for their own work
- Ability to provide clear and pragmatic advice to, and deal confidently with, individuals at all levels
- Ability to handle difficult and sensitive conversations
- Experience in using strong influencing and negotiation skills to establish strong relationships with individuals and groups at all levels from different cultures across a global organization;
- Ability to instruct and manage external counsel appropriately
- Experience in managing direct reports and ability to develop and motivate them effectively
