The role of GSG is to work with C-level Executives to identify, structure and solve their most critical strategic issues across the economic and transaction cycles. As part of a fast-paced and dynamic group, our consultants offer strategic advice on financial, business and operating models to corporate, public sector and private equity clients. Our consultants also receive a superior level of coaching and support to enable them to meet the needs of our global client base.

KPMG has a market leading strategy advisory business in Energy and Natural Resources, serving the oil & gas; power and utilities and infrastructure sector serving UK, European and international clients. We work with C-level executives to identify, structure and solve their most critical strategic issues related to deal strategy, growth strategy and operational strategy. Roles and responsibilities

To be an effective Senior Associate / Senior Consultant within GSG, applicants will be expected to:

• Design and run small projects and / or large, complex workstreams with limited oversight
• Generate hypothesis and play a key role in storyboarding
• Liaise effectively with clients whilst working on engagements and act as an ‘ambassador’ for KPMG
• Produce client ready deliverables that exceed expectations and requires limited review
• Develop solutions to complex problems and challenge the thinking of more senior colleagues and clients
• Construct detailed financial / business models performing complex scenario and sensitivity analysis
• Support the identification of on-sell / cross-sell opportunities
• Develop rapport and solid working relationships with client counterparts and maintain them outside of engagements
• Be a strong and effective team player
• Provide timely feedback and coaching to other team members

Requirements

Work experience:

Applicants will need to display the following:

• 3-6 years’ experience of working for a strategy house, big 4 firm, public sector organisation or central strategy / corporate development team of a large company
• Ability to display involvement in business development activity e.g. building relationships with client counterparts during engagements
• Experience of contributing to thought leadership and knowledge management activities
• Lead workstreams and take responsibility for small teams

Technical skills:

To succeed in this demanding role an applicant will need to demonstrate the following:

• A first class or 2.1 degree from a leading institution
• Evidence of strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities
• Structured thinking skills combined with creativity
• Awareness of new technologies and their commercial impacts
• Ability to gather, review and assess large volumes of technical data and distil the key strategic insights
• Ability to evaluate complex challenges and deliver insightful recommendations that can be practically executed
• Strong numerical capabilities combined with sound commercial acumen
• Ability to build financial models that support our recommendations to clients
• Strong slide writing capabilities
• Excellent English written and oral communication skills
• Other language skills would be a strong bonus
