Manager - Operations & Transformation (Legal Services)

The Role

We are looking for talented individuals with experience in operating model transformation to join us in growing the legal operating model transformation practice within LOTS, through managing and delivering client engagements, developing client relationships and building out our offerings.

The candidate will gain experience in developing a new offering for KPMG and working with other KPMG LOTS teams globally as well as interaction with other KPMG services such as Technology Consulting and People in Change. The wider LOTS team has a focus on legal technology and automation and the candidate will have the opportunity to work across all client bases, from mid-market to FTSE listed companies, from public sector to financial services to FMCG.

The successful candidate will:
— Shape and actively manage client programmes of work to drive legal functions of the future through process, operating model or technology change, taking responsibility for the day-to-day project management and delivery of complex, multi-national engagements for our clients
— Manage senior client stakeholders to ensure that they are happy with the progress of the project and deliverables
— Leverage their operating model and consulting expertise and network to generate new client opportunities
— Proactively assist with business development efforts across LOTS, including pitching for new work and progressing leads to sales
— Lead the development of micro service offerings, taking ownership of their direction and focus
— Develop go-to-market strategies, marketable propositions, collateral, methodologies and alliance partner relationships within LOTS
— Proactively engage in cross-functional communication and sharing of information across the firm, both in the UK and globally
— Take a lead in knowledge sharing and developing operating model transformation skills within our team
— Encourage and motivate team members to achieve targets and to spot new business opportunities

The role will report to the Senior Manager leading the legal operating model transformation team within LOTS. The primary objective will be to support them to help deliver client engagements and shape and grow service offerings and supporting methodologies within the legal operating model transformation practice.

As the team and business grows, the candidate will be expected to contribute to the development of people and culture within the team, ensuring continuous development and support for more junior members.
The candidate will also be expected to lead and support on activities related to business development, marketing and communications, and collateral development to feed into the wider LOTS business, in the UK and globally.
Candidates will be expected to have a strong track record in engaging with and managing stakeholders across different seniorities, functions and industries.
Candidates will need to manage both internal and external stakeholders self-sufficiently as part of on-going engagements and through business and strategic development.

The successful candidate will contribute to the growth and development of the practice and service offerings in LOTS, and KPMG Law as a whole by extension. The candidate will be responsible for adhering to KPMG standards regarding risk and quality of their work and the work performed by their team within engagements they oversee.


The Experience

— Proven consulting experience and ability to build strong, trusted client relationships.
— Understanding of the strategic challenges and opportunities facing legal leaders such as technology innovation, the “more for less challenge”, managing the delivery of legal services including from external counsel, and the evolving role of General Counsels within organisations
— Experience managing and delivering operating model transformation activities – e.g. service delivery model design including design and implementation of roles, responsibilities, span of control, process efficiency assessment and interventions, governance structures
— Ability to build the business case to demonstrate a value proposition for senior management to decide to move forward projects (e.g. influence key buyers, such as General Counsels).
— High level understanding of key legal technology solutions (e.g. Contract Lifecyle Management (CLM), spend management, matter management, document management etc) and a point of view on how legal tech drives Legal Service Delivery.
— Ability to leverage deep functional knowledge and experience to develop solutions to the client with short turnaround times.
— Experience in leading transformation projects and programmes, managing team members to deliver high quality work on time and to budget
— Excellent written and verbal communication skills
— Leading and facilitating stakeholder workshops to achieve desired outcomes
— Experience in conducting assessment, gap analysis and road mapping exercises
— Experience in supporting business change management projects
— Experience in managing and leading business development activities (such as client meetings, proposals and marketing materials)
— Knowledge, skills and experience working with or in the legal industry covering areas such as legal strategy, legal technology, legal processes and controls, target operating model design, service delivery, cultural change, communications and engagement strategies, leadership development.
— Understanding of legal, risk and compliance issues facing organisations
— Understanding of drivers, risks and opportunities facing "back office" functions and their drive towards digitisation
— Experience of in-house legal functions desirable but not essential
— A project management qualification such as Prince2 would be desirable but not essential
