Manager - Transparent Approach to Costing - Higher Education

We are looking for an experienced and specialist Manager to join our Infrastructure, Government and Healthcare Consulting practice. Our engagements range across, Higher and Further Education, Healthcare, and Government. KPMG is a market leader in most of these sectors and we are the largest assurance practice within the Big 4. We work with the vast majority of Russell Group Universities, the Office for Students, UK Research and Innovation and the Department for Education; in addition to most of the largest Healthcare providers.

Role and Responsibilities:

We are looking for a candidate with proven experience in the Transparent Approach to Costing, and efficiency in the Higher Education Sector. Working with your portfolio of engagements you will operate cross functionally with colleagues across all of KPMG's service offerings across the region and nationally. You will manage and deliver engagements from planning through to completion. The role will require proficiency in the Transparent Approach to Costing, Governance, and Internal Audit experience would be desirable. You will have your own portfolio of engagements with responsibility for managing client relationships, agreeing timetables, briefing the team, monitoring budgets and supervising the delivery of projects. Other responsibilities for this role will include:
• Development of costing methodologies applicable to the Higher Education sector to achieve a defined purpose
• Provide advice on the development and application of the Transparent Approach to Costing methodology
• Engagement with national stakeholder groups
• Organising and leading the delivery of national conferences and other regional events.
• Operation of a technical helpdesk
• Planning and project managing a portfolio of engagements
• Delivery of collaborative good practice research projects
• Establishing and building relationships with senior stakeholders across your client base
• Design and undertake good governance, regulatory compliance and other reviews
• Assisting with targeting activities as part of KPMG's growth agenda
• Oversee and direct the budgeting, planning, co-ordination and control of engagements in accordance with statutory and business requirements to ensure effective service delivery and achievement of financial targets
• Leading, inspiring and motivating a department, reporting to the partner group
• Report writing and reviewing for governance groups and management reviews
• Driving new ways to differentiate KPMG - how can we bring new and innovative ideas to our clients?
• To manage engagements, leading and overseeing teams to ensure effective and timely delivery of engagements
• Direct, coach and mentor Assistant Managers to assist them in delivering a service to the required standard on each engagement
• Nurture and seek worthwhile relationships with client engagements, business departments and staff in order to facilitate the sharing of information, and to identify and progress current and future requirements
• Contribute towards the creation, implementation and delivery of the firm’s Business Plan and offer support in relation to issues identified as a result of organisational or engagements focus change
• Assist the Director/Partner in monitoring the effectiveness of services delivered, providing feedback and reflection on the quality of service accordingly
• Fee generation through actively identifying and progressing business development opportunities, as well as managing sales activities such as proposal development and client presentations.
• Contributing to practice management, e.g. knowledge sharing, training, proposition development, and knowledge management.
Skills, Qualification & Experience:

• Recent and extensive experience of the Transparent Approach to Costing and efficiency within the Higher Education sector within a professional services environment, with exposure to large and complex engagements

• Fully qualified chartered accountant
• Strong project management techniques including decision-making ability, analytical skills, time management, prioritisation, organisation and evaluative skills
• Well-developed leadership and supervisory skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals both internally and externally at different seniority levels
• Experience of working with large and complex data sets
• Exceptional communication skills; both written and verbal
• Strong IT literacy, including Excel, PowerPoint and Word and SharePoint.
