KPMG’s highly successful Energy and Natural Resources (ENR) team is looking to consolidate our recent growth.
The energy and natural resources sector is experiencing unprecedented strategic and regulatory challenges, this is driven by the demand for decarbonisation and a dynamic economic and regulatory landscape. As a result we are seeing rapid change and disruption in the sector, as businesses and regulators look to serve the changing needs of consumers and companies. More than ever, our clients in the sector need clear-sighted, robust advice to help them navigate and solve the problems they face.

About us

We serve a diverse client base. Typically we work with clients (at management, executive and board level) to provide strategic, regulatory and economic insight. We offer interesting and varied work and the opportunity to earn substantial rewards by expanding our successful practice in the UK.

Our team of economic, regulatory, strategic, compliance and low-carbon specialists supports our clients with:
- Strategic advice around regulatory and policy issues in the sector;
- Economic analysis, both around sector price controls and wider low-carbon policy (including impact assessments and cost benefit analysis);
- Policy implementation and delivery;
- Stakeholder engagement, including responses to Government consultations;
- Scenario modelling around low-carbon futures; and
- Compliance, assurance and monitoring services;
We currently cover the following sectors:
- Regulated companies (gas and electricity networks and water companies);
- Electricity wholesale and ancillary services markets;
- Retail utilities;
- Industrials and manufacturing;
- Sector services partners e.g. Xoserve, Elexon

The Role

We are seeking to grow and maximise opportunities in:
- Provision of regulatory analysis and advice in the gas, electricity and water sectorsServices around Net Zero strategy and implementation for both public and corporate clients;
- Economic regulation in the water sector, in particular support for water companies developing business plans for the 2024-29 period;
- Strategic and economic advice to participants in wholesale and balancing markets;
- Planning and implementation of the ‘hydrogen economy’;
- and
- Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) agenda compliance and assurance services.

We are looking for highly motivated individuals to join us for our next stage of growth and diversification.

The Person

If you are interested in:
- Electricity, gas and water regulation.
- Energy policy and strategy.
- Regulatory price reviews, business planning and organisational change.
- Policy design, implementation and evaluation.
- Delivering business change in response to regulatory or market forces.
- Energy and environmental economics.
- Compliance management.
And you have these skills and experience:
- Good analytical skills that you can apply to any new problem.
- Strong communication skills (written, in meetings, presentations).
- Familiarity with operation of GB energy markets, regulation and carbon reduction initiatives.
- Highly numerate with skills in building and analysing spreadsheet models.
- A good first degree or equivalent (2:1 and above) in sciences and/or humanities.
- Experience working on energy, utilities and natural resources sector issues, or postgraduate study related to these.
- An ability to use analytical techniques and critical challenge to turn facts and figures into a compelling narrative.
