Job Description
The Team

KPMG’s London National Markets Corporate Tax team is a well-established group of around 40 tax specialists who help UK and international headed groups address all their tax structuring, compliance and planning needs. We help clients to determine the best approach to their global tax strategy and structure, provide advice on how to expand into new markets (including into the UK), how to structure their financing, reorganisations and cross border structuring, rationalisation and divestment.

The team works across all sectors including technology, real estate, leisure, retail and financial services. Recent project wins and shifts in market dynamics, in particular as a result of the developments in relation to BEPS and US tax reform, has significantly raised the team’s profile in the market. As we continue to build on that success we are looking to add to our team with a commercially focused Senior Manager to help drive the business forward.

The Role

We are looking for an International Tax Manager to join our busy London National Markets Corporate Tax department. We anticipate that the individual would undertake international tax and treasury work on a mixture of ad hoc projects and their own portfolio of clients (with Director or Partner support where needed). They will build long term relationships with their clients and targets and gain a thorough understanding of their businesses so that they can provide advice and services that are tailored to their clients’ needs.

The Responsibilities

This role involves working on a range of projects and clients within the middle market. The work includes:
- Advising UK and international groups on a range of cross border tax issues, group structuring, tax efficient financing, inbound and outbound investment, etc.
- Recommending strategies for managing clients’ effective tax rate using efficient intellectual property, financing and other strategies.
- Project managing cross border teams and UK client service teams on an ongoing basis on advisory (and sometimes on M&A) projects. This involves liaising with specialists, overseas member firms and external advisers to deliver successful projects and expertise to those clients.
- Being the principal contact on day to day tax matters on a portfolio of clients. Responding to requests from clients for other KPMG services. Understanding the client’s business and helping to identify areas for the provision of tax and other services.
- Having wide-ranging conversations with targets and clients across different taxes and commercial issues. For example, being able to identify and discuss opportunities related to shareholder tax matters, indirect taxes or employment taxes etc.
- Being commercially minded to focus on client issues and not just a single area of specialism
- Assisting on tax aspects of audits, in particular where those audits involve international/ restructuring issues.
- Coaching and developing junior members of staff.
- Assisting with business development work.
- Keeping technical knowledge up to date and help share knowledge with the wider team.
- Keeping internal control records up to date and ensuring compliance with quality control procedures.

The Person

The successful candidate will have the following skills:
- CTA, CA, ACA, ACCA or equivalently qualified
- Have experience of working overseas and be familiar with one or more overseas tax regimes. One of the individual’s key roles will be to help to develop business with clients from overseas markets who are looking at investing in the UK. Therefore the candidate will require a strong network and understanding of an overseas market.
- Experience in international tax
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels (internally and externally) and be a team worker.
- Sound judgement, including the ability to identify and evaluate risk issues and know when to involve others.
- Strong interpersonal skills in addition to strong oral and written communication skills
- High level analytical skills and a commercial approach to resolving issues and providing advice
- Ability to multi-task
- High level of drive and enthusiasm with a positive attitude
- Ability and willingness to keep up to date technically
