The Role

KPMG has one of the leading Indirect Tax practices in the UK. We work as a national practice providing advice and support in all aspects of Indirect Tax (VAT, Customs Duty, Green taxes) to a broad range of business sectors including large multi-nationals, household name retailers and public sector organisations.

KPMG’s Financial Services Indirect Tax practice currently services a broad range of clients, providing both VAT and Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) services. As VAT and IPT are real time, transactional taxes we work closely with our clients, building up a deep knowledge of their activities and how their businesses operate.

The team undertakes both compliance and advisory services. Over the last 12 months the team has been successful in winning a number of new and expanding existing compliance projects. These projects include working with one of the largest investment banks / fund administrators globally and one of the UK’s largest insurers. In the market, we continue to see a demand from clients looking to outsource day-to-day compliance processes so we expect the breadth of work to increase in the future.

In order to deliver the projects already won and the additional projects we expect to win, we are looking to recruit motivated individuals who have an interest in learning about tax, would like the opportunity to assume responsibility for client delivery, are keen to build their knowledge of businesses operationally and are seeking a real challenge.


• Providing indirect tax compliance services to a range of clients working, closely with other members of the Indirect Tax team
• Working on advisory issues / opportunities that are identified via the compliance process;
• Day-to-day, direct contact with the client and developing long lasting, positive relationships;
• Working on wider indirect tax advisory projects;
• Helping to identify opportunities to implement and develop technology solutions to deliver compliance and advisory projects.
• Working with and contributing to the diverse and friendly team.

The Individual

Personal and technical skills required are as follows:
• An eagerness to learn about Indirect Tax and new skills;
• An interest in learning about financial services and the businesses that operate in the sector
• An ability to work proficiently with numbers;
• Good working knowledge of Excel
• Attention to detail;
• Ideally a knowledge of different financial reports (e.g. accounts payable and accounts receivable data) but not essential as this will be learned through on the job working
• An ability to establish and maintain good relationships with colleagues internally and with clients
• Working with clients to identify opportunities to improve their Indirect tax compliance
• Sustaining a high level of drive, shows enthusiasm and a positive attitude when coping with pressure at work
