IT Project Manager - Tech Transformation - Assistant Manager Level

You will be joining the IT Project & Programme Management (IT-PPM) team to work as a project manager here at KPMG. We work closely with our financial services, corporates and IGH clients to shape and lead technology-enabled business change engagements, typically motivated by regulatory transformation, bringing new products and services to market, realising operational efficiencies, architectural renewal etc. We work with clients to maximise business benefits and optimise delivery. This means shaping projects and programmes and then delivering them through the full business change lifecycle using the best-fit approach, e.g. scaled agile, scrum, waterfall etc., or a hybrid version. We ensure key stakeholders are engaged in designing, delivering and adopting changes and that they retain accountability to maximize lasting benefits over the long term.

As an IT focused project manager, you will be joining a collaborative and energetic team that shares project delivery knowledge and experiences and pushes forward thinking on the evolution of project management. Our team covers a broad range of functional and technical domains you will have the opportunity, and be expected, to grow your skill set and experience across a variety of these.

We are looking for a proactive individual with experience of managing small teams, projects or workstreams – ideally in banking / capital markets – who is motivated by delivering successful engagements with clients, has a thirst to learn more and is excited to contribute to growing our team.

The Person

You will be expected to have some project management experience, having led teams or technology enabled projects. You may have started by working in a project management office as a way of gaining understanding of the complete business change lifecycle from feasibility through to project definition, mobilisation, development (analyse / design / build / test activities), and then on to transition.

You will be aware of the big picture level but be focused on securing the successful delivery of defined projects or streams of work. You will have good technology skills and are likely to have been through some formal technology delivery training, e.g. a graduate traineeship with a bank, consulting firm or technology organisation. You will have developed some project management capabilities and will be looking to develop your career in this direction. You are likely to have had exposure to some specific areas of banking / capital markets.

To excel in this role, you must be a team lead or have some project management experience and be keen to develop your career in a structured but forward-thinking environment. You will be aware of the core delivery levers of scope, time, budget, quality and risk and have some insight into how they are used to create and maintain the optimum delivery mix. You will have a clear understanding of governance, scoping, planning, project finances, quality, resourcing, risk and issue management, and communications.

Fundamental skills include:
• Core understanding of the systems development lifecycle for waterfall and agile projects
• Core understanding of project management, client relationship management, stakeholder engagement
• Familiarity with business analysis artefacts (including requirements definition, process mapping, operating model definition) and delivery concepts like systems integration, systems implementation, testing and release management
• Exposure to business / application architecture artefacts, solution definitions, integration architectures
• Solid problem solving, decision making and analytical capabilities
• Understanding of how complexity and ambiguity impact how projects are managed
• Confident in managing team members and dealing with client stakeholders

As this is an Assistant Manager level consulting role, you will be expected to:

• Lead small teams to successfully deliver defined change projects or sub-projects involving technology, data and business change in retail, commercial and investment banks (a team may be a project management office group)
• Co-ordinate team tasks and activities, managing to deadlines, anticipating challenges, difficulties and pressure points
• Identify and support the mitigation of delivery risks, as well as facilitating the resolution of issues / blockers
• Work effectively with a range of stakeholders across business, technology and data teams in large banking organisations.
• Understand the differences between different project / programme delivery structures and governance models
• Manage project / sub-project scope and operate established change control processes
• Manage project costs, including the establishment of baseline costs and tracking, and contingency planning
