Job Description
The Role:



This is an exciting opportunity to help define and shape the Public Policy Strategy for KPMGI that will include;

Supporting the Global Head of Corporate Affairs to design and deliver KPMGI Corporate Affairs Strategy, an important element of which is the individual corporate affairs strategies of KPMG’s member firms, particularly those represented on the Executive Committee of KPMG’s Global Board.

Devising and overseeing the delivery of a public policy strategy for KPMGI. The strategy will include advice on the international public policy relationships KPMG needs to help secure its strategy and what, if any, public policy matters require KPMGI to take a position so that its interests are protected and ambitions realised. Working closely with member firms, the role will oversee KPMG’s relationships with internationally relevant public policy makers such as business and trade organizations, professional services bodies, major stock exchanges, leading thought leaders and influential academics.

The role is responsible for ensuring KPMGI can determine the strength and weaknesses of member firms’ public policy relationships and for supporting member firms to strengthen their own public policy capacity. During reputational crises, the role will have responsibility for designing and supporting the delivery of the require public policy strategy. Working closely with member firms, designing and overseeing the delivery of the strategy for KPMGI’s evaluation of and, as appropriate and required, non-client engagement with national level politicians and officials. The role is also responsible for overseeing the measuring of member firm’s political relationships and, as required, for designing strategies for strengthening them.


Key Accountabilities:

- 10% Design and implement the Public Policy Strategy to address the regulatory & policy environments
- 40% Build communications plans & resources related to public policy, working with experts to develop KPMG’s view on topical issues
- 20% Regularly monitor significant political developments and consultation
- 15% Produce relevant guidance for Partners and employees wishing to be politically active, working with Global Risk to ensure our Partners and employees are compliant with legislation & relevant lobbying acts
- 10% Manage the firm’s relationship with think tanks and other membership bodies
- 5% Manage the costs and budgets associated with delivery of the External Affairs & Public Policy program of work.

Key activities and deliverables:


- Strategy development & execution
- Manage the process to co-create and build the strategy
- Work closely with the Global Corporate Affairs Leadership Team to communicate and gain endorsement on the interventions with key stakeholders
- Engage member firms to explain and gain buy-in & acceptance on the interventions and delivery approach

Public policy

Will develop & provide support to Partners and employees with content, including:

- Keynote speeches
- Material to support panel discussions, roundtables or workshops
- Articles for trade publications to build profile for KPMG experts
- Briefings for Partners and employees to engage clients and targets in issue-based conversations
- Support commercial business development by demonstrating KPMG’s insight, convening power and capacity for disruptive and original thinking

External affairs:

- Regularly monitor significant political developments and engage with relevant teams internally, and decision-makers external, on the implications for KPMG and our clients
- Lead the team to track upcoming government consultations and offer guidance to colleagues who wish to respond
- Support Partners & employees to manage relationships with politicians and facilitate introductions where appropriate
- Attend major political party conferences and host events on key policy issues affecting our firm and our clients

Political activity, lobbying & compliance:

- Work closely with the Global Risk and Global Ethics & Independence team to produce relevant guidance for Partners and employees wishing to be politically active

External engagement:

-Take a lead in managing relationships with various think tanks and other membership bodies

People Leadership:

- Develop staffing profiles/job descriptions and manage talent recruitment
- Perform required people leadership activities for direct and in-direct teams

Financial management:

- Build the annual business & budget plans, ensuring transparency and accountability across the team;
- Provide regular communication on budget vs actuals throughout the fiscal year to all key budget accountable stakeholders taking corrective action as necessary or escalating recommendations to the Global Head of Corporate Affairs


The Person:
Technical Skills & Qualifications:

- A strong understanding of public policy practices, methodologies and trends as well as traditional media, digital and social platforms to achieve external affairs objectives
- Advanced coaching, influencing and facilitation skills
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, journalism, media studies, public relations or a related field
- Professional post-graduate qualification preferred

Experience & Knowledge:

- Significant leadership experience in an external or client-facing external affairs / public policy role
- Experience of transformational change within organisations or teams
- Strong leadership skills and team and people development skills
- Willingness to travel internationally
