Job DescriptionWe are looking for experienced auditors to join the Audit practice within Public Sector and Healthcare. We currently have opportunities in London and South Offices including Reading, Southampton, Bristol, Cardiff and Plymouth. Our clients range across Local and Central Government, Healthcare, Higher and Further Education, Housing Associations and Charities. KPMG is a market leader in these sectors and we are the largest Public Sector audit practice within the Big 4. We work with the vast majority of Russell Group Universities; most of the largest Housing Associations and Healthcare providers as well as over half of all Local Government organisations in London. Our clients are household names and with our dedicated Public Sector practice, we are at the forefront of developments, helping our clients to face current pressures and longer term challenges from economic developments and socio political changes.

You will work across both internal and external audit, picking up a portfolio of clients and working within a cross functional office, alongside our Advisory and Tax functions as part of our Public Sector practice. There are opportunities to become involved in work outside of traditional audit, both in terms of business development to help grow our business, as well as more widely within KPMG, for example through joint projects with our Advisory, Tax and Corporates teams.

As a Manager within Public Sector you will be involved in all aspects of delivering audit engagements from planning through to completion. Your role will include executive level client interaction across multiple clients, giving superb opportunities for personal and professional growth within a Big 4 environment.

The Role:

You will manage and deliver audit engagements from planning through to completion. The role will require proficiency in IFRS, UK GAAP. You will have your own portfolio of clients with responsibility for agreeing audit timetables, briefing the audit team, monitoring budgets and supervising the KPMG audit process. The specific responsibilities will be:

-To manage engagements, overseeing In-Charge and Audit Assistants work ensuring compliance with client and statutory requirements and ensuring the effective and timely delivery of engagements
- Oversee and direct the budgeting, planning, co-ordination and control of engagements in accordance with client, statutory and business requirements to ensure effective service delivery and maximised recoverability
- Direct, coach and mentor Assistant Managers to assist them in delivering a service to the required standard on each engagement
- Nurture and seek worthwhile relationships with clients, business departments and staff in order to facilitate the sharing of information, and to identify and progress current and future Audit requirements
- Contribute towards the creation, implementation and delivery of the Audit Business Plan and offer support in relation to issues identified as a result of organisational or client focus change
- Assist the Senior Manager and Director in monitoring the effectiveness of Audit services delivered, providing feedback and reflection on the quality of service accordingly
- Preparation of reports to senior management and audit committees
-involvement in Business Development activity as required

The Person:

- Self-driven and resilient and able to thrive in a pressurised environment
- The ambition to undertake new challenges and step up into supervisory roles, taking leadership where necessary
- The desire to work in a diverse environment and gain exposure to an international working environment
- Strong project management techniques including decision-making ability, analytical skills, time management, prioritisation, organisation and evaluative skills.
- Experience of auditing public sector organisations. We will also consider candidates with an interest in moving into the public sector.
- Builds the reputation of KPMG through the quality of work, knowledge and experience.
- Monitors and upholds high quality of service and products to clients (internal and external)

Qualifications and Skills Required:

- Fully qualified ACA/ACCA or international equivalent is essential. We will also consider those who are tracking towards full qualification (both time and exam) in 2016.
- Recent and extensive external audit experience within a professional services environment, with exposure to large clients.
- Well-developed leadership and supervisory skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals both internally and externally at different seniority levels.
- Exceptional communication skills; both written and verbal.
- Strong IT literacy, including Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
- Demonstrating practical knowledge of IFRS is preferable.
- Exposure to some Public Sector or charity clients is required.
