The role
- Assist with a broad range of technical accounting queries on our Banking audit engagements. Particular focus on financial instrument accounting queries, encompassing ad-hoc queries, review of transaction-based accounting papers, technical accounting analysis, accounting policy and disclosure reviews etc.
- Support our audit teams through direct interaction with management at our audited entities, helping the senior audit team to explain accounting concepts, technical accounting issues and new and emerging hot topics.
- Provide technical input and draft reports required on debt/equity assessment of new capital instruments (AT1 and RT1 reporting).
- Develop and deliver technical accounting workshops/training for both internal and external audiences.
- Assist in the preparation of presentations, bench-marking surveys, thought leadership collateral and marketing material
- Support business development through involvement in KPMG’s external audit proposals with a primary focus on financial services and banking audits.
- Monitor, coach and develop others you work with on the above.

The Person

- Must possess professional qualification; ACA, ACCA or CPA. Individuals on track to be exam and time qualified this year may also be considered
- Strong technical knowledge of the IAS 39 and IFRS 9 standards and crucially the practical application of these within the banking industry. Knowledge and experience of IFRS 7, 13 and banking disclosure requirements. Hedge accounting knowledge and experience an advantage.
- Strong analytical skills in relation to analysing accounting papers and interpreting data
- Strong project management skills, demonstrated by a record of accounting project delivery
- Strong communication skills and ability to influence and deal with senior individuals
- Excellent written and communication skills; including delivering presentations and an ability to communicate well, both in writing and verbally
Experience and Background
- Relevant experience within financial services, with a focus on technical accounting in banking.
- Strong ability to evaluate technical issues, analyse facts, consult and deliver solutions.
- Knowledge of finance processes, in particularly accounting processes and / or reporting requirements advantageous.
- Proven ability to identify and pursue business opportunities whilst maintaining a solution mindset as well as drive and resilience to deliver in a pressured environment
- Understanding of accounting developments and current issues facing the banking sector.
- Proven track record in working with teams to bring high quality deliverables to a range of stakeholders.
- Commitment to building the reputation of KPMG through the quality of work, knowledge and experience relevant to the Banking industry.
