The Team




KPMG’s Global Strategy Group (GSG) is looking at hiring a number of exceptional candidates, across grades, to join their London office. The team is looking to attract professional, talented individuals who have a passion for identifying and creating innovative solutions for clients.

The role of GSG is to work with C-level Executives to identify, structure and solve their most critical strategic issues across the economic and transaction cycles. As part of a fast-paced and dynamic group, our consultants offer strategic advice on financial, business and operating models to corporate, public sector and private equity clients. Our consultants also receive a superior level of training and coaching to enable them to meet the needs of our global client base.

KPMG has a market leading strategy advisory business in Energy and Natural Resources, serving the oil & gas; power and utilities and infrastructure sector serving UK, European and international clients. We work with C-level executives to identify, structure and solve their most critical strategic issues related to deal strategy, growth strategy and operational strategy. It is a good time to join us as we are growing rapidly due to our unique propositions and the strength of our client relationships, with the Energy & Natural Resources business growing at circa 20% pa. The Role



Responsibilities



To be a successful Associate Director within GSG, applicants will be expected to:

- Build deep client relationships and be seen as the ‘go to’ person and a trusted adviser by senior executives
- Support the identification, pursuit and conversion of a pipeline of business development opportunities for GSG
- Proactively manage on-sell and cross-sell opportunities
- Finalise the preparation of the client deliverables and identify the critical areas for debate
- Undertake scoping and fee negotiation on standard engagements
- Actively develops own knowledge and expertise in chosen proposition(s) and sector of choice
- Proactively develop thought leadership
- Lead the design of complex engagements and take responsibility for leading day to day delivery
- Lead complex storyboarding and shape the overall problem solving approach to develop recommendations
- Build and maintain a strong GSG and internal KPMG network
- Understand risk and ensure the Firm’s risk management frameworks are adhered to
- Inspire, motivate, coach and develop project team members and appraisees, and give constructive 360 degree feedback
- Identify, design and lead critical and complex practice development initiatives, coordinating other members of the team

Requirements



Knowledge and Experience:



Applicants will need to display the following:

- Substantial experience of working for a strategy house, big 4 firm, public-sector organisation or central strategy / corporate development team of a large company
- Track record of working closely with large, corporate or public-sector clients to deliver high impact recommendations
- Detailed understanding of the value drivers within the Energy and Natural Resources sector
- Considerable experience of leading and managing complex projects in the Energy and Natural Resources sector with multi-disciplinary teams in a consulting, corporate or public sector environment
- Experience of managing or supporting high value business development activities with senior stakeholders
- Demonstrable ability to build and commercialise relationships with senior executives in the Energy and Natural Resources sector

Qualifications and Skills:

To succeed in this role an applicant will need to demonstrate the following:

- A first class or 2.1 degree from a leading institution
- Sales and business development skills
- Evidence of strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities
- Detailed knowledge of the Energy & Natural Resources sector with the ability to talk credibly to C-level clients on the key issues, technological changes and strategic considerations facing the industry
- In depth experience in delivering Operating Strategy & Cost work in the sector (including operating model design, cost efficiency, zero based budgeting), with some deal related experience desirable
- Structured thinking skills combined with creativity
- Ability to review and assess large volumes of technical data and distil the key strategic insights
- Ability to evaluate complex challenges and deliver insightful recommendations that can be practically executed
- Strong numerical capabilities combined with sound commercial acumen
- Excellent English written and oral communication skills
- Other language skills would be a strong bonus
