The Team
KPMG UK’s Infrastructure Advisory Group (IAG) is a team of roughly 200 professionals and is widely recognised as one of the world’s leading independent financial and commercial advisers in the infrastructure sector. IAG has locations in London, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Leeds and Manchester and is organised on a national basis.
IAG provides in-depth advice on the strategic, financial, regulatory and commercial issues driving investments in infrastructure across Transport, Power & Utilities, and Social Infrastructure in the UK and internationally. This ranges from providing strategic thinking and advice to companies and investors to enable private capital to fund infrastructure, to working with the public sector to develop the business cases to enable projects to happen, and advising through negotiations that bring the public and private sectors together. We also work closely with other functions within KPMG to share our sector expertise to help colleagues advise clients on mergers and acquisitions, valuations, tax, accounting, and due diligence issues.
Power & Utilities is a key business area for IAG, and within that team we are looking for a high quality candidate to support in both the delivery of current projects for clients as financial advisor and growing the business in the advent of Net Zero and Renewables.

The Role

The Associate Director provides senior leadership to the team, working closely with the Directors and Partners to lead our client engagements and lead business development activity.
The role will include:
• Building enduring client relationships and becoming the go to person for our clients on projects and relevant market opportunities;
• Leading client engagements on both public and private sector mandates on a day to day basis;
• Providing robust financial and commercial advice, on finance aspects and deal structuring
• Working with internal teams, client project teams and other professional advisors;
• Producing, reviewing and overseeing development high quality documentation and presentations, from options appraisals, business cases, financial models, payment mechanisms and other finance related aspects of project work;
• Oversee the development of financial models providing review, guidance and advice;
• Developing sector specific market intelligence and taking ownership of a particular area;
• Build teams, providing training, guidance and leadership to the junior team members;
• Ensuring engagement administration, compliance and risk management procedures are adhered to;
• Performance management, coaching and mentoring of junior team members; and
• Any other duties commensurate with the senior nature of the role.

The Person
• Assured and experienced in a client and market facing role;
• Have a financial qualification of ACA, CFA or of equivalent;
• Have experience of public procurement processes through PPPs / PFIs, in particular within the waste sector;
• Have report and business case authoring / review skills;
• Have strong experience of financial modelling and review process;
• Have experience of structuring deals with debt and equity, and taking them to a financial close;
• In depth knowledge of project finance structures and related commercial considerations within the energy from waste sector and wider renewables sector;
• Demonstrable credentials of working with both public and private sector clients on projects;
• Be an independent thinker with the ability to identify and solve problems;
• Have a go get attitude and a will to succeed, with experience of opening up opportunities.
