Associate Director, Debt Advisory

We are an experienced, market-leading independent debt advisory team focused on delivering the best financing outcomes for clients – whether its refinancing existing debt, funding a growth strategy, raising capital to support M&A, or dealing with financial stress. The team is currently advising a range of listed and private companies on their financing strategies, high profile debt finance transactions and managing their financing stakeholders.

In particular, the team has a long track record of advising companies undergoing significant strategic or structural change and/or managing through periods of financial stress which may be impacting their financing position.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Debt Advisory team is seeking an Associate Director based in London to support its growing national business.This role will primarily be focused on advising companies undergoing strategic or structural change, or experiencing periods of stress, resulting in pressure on their financing arrangements and/or liquidity. You will be expected to work across a broad range of debt products and markets often involving complex, multi-stakeholder situations and operating in parallel with other corporate transactions or restructuring activity.

The successful candidate will be expected to build and take ownership of client relationships through business and client development responsibilities and to lead engagements on a day to day basis. You will manage engagement teams (upwards, downwards and with colleagues from other specialist disciplines) and will also be responsible for internal people development.


You will be expected to demonstrate the following:

• Seizes Business Opportunities: Develops and grows new and existing business for Debt Advisory (and KPMG as appropriate) by taking responsibility for agreed business areas , working effectively with relevant colleagues from other KPMG service lines, building new client relationships and organising, leading and contributing to proposals and marketing events

• Generates income through existing and new relationships and identifies opportunities to cross sell

Experience and Background

To succeed in this varied and demanding role you will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

• Ability to create confidence and trust with colleagues and clients alike
• Able to deal with complexity and ambiguity well and solution focused
• Proven understanding and experience of the UK debt markets with strong relevant experience in banking or lending; ‘special situations’ or distressed debt investment; debt restructuring, ‘work out’ or distressed debt management; and/or, debt advisory . This should include experience in managing financing stakeholders and delivering financing solutions as part of wider corporate, fundraising or restructuring activity
• Consistent track record of building and maintaining lasting internal and external relationships
• Excellent attention to detail with an ability to deliver high quality presentations and analysis
