About KPMG

KPMG UK is part of a global network of member firms who use their expertise and talents to build businesses and support growth. We are 16,000 people with a shared ambition: to make a positive difference to society. It’s how we bring our values to life.

Our work spans four areas: we audit many of the UK's largest companies. And our people in Consulting, Deals, Tax & Law and Technology & Engineering work shoulder-to-shoulder with organisations around the world to help them solve their most complex problems.

To get the very best outcomes, we value different perspectives and diversity of thought. We believe that gender, race or background shouldn't limit anyone's career potential and we're working hard to recruit, and retain, people that mirror the world we work in.

We fully embrace flexible working and have some award-winning employee networks and initiatives, fostering a fully inclusive environment which maximises collaboration and empowers everyone at KPMG to bring their whole selves to work.

Above all, we look after each other, we give back to our communities and we care about the quality of our work. We use the power of our voice to spark debate, share ideas and bring about change.

Within Deals, the Major Projects Advisory (MPA) team is helping to crack some of the biggest challenges in infrastructure and public services, making an impact on things that affect the wellbeing and prosperity of everyone in the UK. The work is varied and complex, and no one else does it quite like we do.

We’re passionate about:

Change and reform in the public sector

The future of transport and mobility

Decarbonisation and sustainability

We work with clients in:

Central Government

Transport (roads, rail and aviation)

Energy and Utilities (electricity, nuclear, water)

We focus on:

Capital projects and programmes

Complex portfolios

Major transformations

Progressive assurance

On the back of continuing growth and success in the market, we’re investing in our team and boosting our numbers – which means you’ll be joining one of the fastest growing areas of the firm at a time of real significance.

About the role

As a team, we take on a wide range of assignments, requiring entrepreneurial spirit and intellectual curiosity.

Our Executives play a really important part of making things happen for our clients, and candidates need a foundation of professional experience - ideally gained from infrastructure-related projects and programmes, but we’ll happily consider candidates with a developing track record in other relevant fields.

As one of the junior consultants on the ground, you’ll be applying your knowledge and skills every day, supporting teams to bring solutions to life.

Typically, your day-to-day involves:

Being part of high-performing teams

Supporting the delivery of client-facing work within specialist areas, embedding a strong human / end user focus – which includes producing high-quality outputs with excellent attention to detail

Supporting business development activities – helping to identify potential opportunities for new assignments and assisting with bids and proposals

Keeping up to date with developments affecting your work, identifying opportunities for thought leadership and assisting with the development of KPMG’s opinion in your specific technical area

Understanding the broader suite of services offered by KPMG and identifying opportunities to collaborate and design unique solutions for our clients

Coaching and mentoring your colleagues – both up and down

Being a role model and living our values

The sort of people we’re looking for

There is no one-size fits all in MPA; we’re as diverse as the world around us. We hand pick our people because they’re our most important asset – and people pick us because we really mean that.

For this entry-level opportunity, we’re looking for candidates with at least 2 years’ professional experience - primarily built around infrastructure-related projects and programmes.

Your track record should evidence:

Experience of working in an advisory or delivery capacity – either for another consultancy or in a client-side role in industry, Government or the wider public sector

Experience of applying project, programme and/or portfolio management – and a passion for the discipline

Experience and an interest in at least one our core markets – Central Government, Transport, Energy or Utilities

Analytical and problem-solving skills – including working with numerical data

An ability to build and maintain great relationships

Confident communication and presentation skills

Relevant experience using different software / applications (e.g. Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, Oracle P6, Slack, Clarizen)

Relevant professional certification – e.g. APM PMQ/PPQ/ChPP; MoP; MSP; PRINCE2

A final word from us…

Everybody likes to say they’re different... but we really think we are.

We’re hugely proud of what we’ve managed to achieve so far, but we’re only just getting started. We’re looking for people to grow with us and are committed to helping everybody reach their destination, regardless of what that is.

Should you choose to join us, you can expect an attractive benefits package, which typically includes:

A competitive salary

Pension options

Bonus scheme that reflects firm and individual performance

Rail and Oyster Card reimbursement

Staff discounts

Access to preferential banking

25 days holiday, with the option to buy up to an extra 10 days, plus an additional day of leave for your birthday
