Job Description
The Team

The Legal Services Team sits within KPMG Tax. Its establishment flows naturally from KPMG’s long history of successfully delivering multidisciplinary services to clients. Its vision is to be the legal adviser of choice for KPMG’s clients when it comes to their people, corporate structures, internal arrangements, regulatory requirements and disputes with HMRC. KPMG is regulated by the SRA as a multi-disciplinary practice.

Core corporate, commercial, employment and immigration law teams, and a market leading tax litigation team, are already in place. Over the next few years, these teams will grow and Legal Services will expand into other areas of law that fit within its vision and the needs of KPMG’s clients.

Employment Legal Services

The Employment Legal Services team comprises 8 lawyers who regularly work with a wide cross-section of the KPMG client-facing business.

The team undertakes a variety of work particularly advising on high-profile issues such as employment status, gender pay gap reporting and equal pay audits,, national minimum wage investigations, contractual arrangements and systems, reorganisations, redundancies, TUPE and corporate support work both on a domestic and international scale.

The Role


As a solicitor and assistant manager, key aspects of the role include:

- Advising a range of clients in relation to their employment law needs under the supervision of more senior team members.
- Participating in team and firm events, giving internal and external presentations and producing expert employment law articles for publications.
- Working in multi-disciplinary service teams (including payroll advisory, employment tax, reward and data analytics) to deliver a seamless employment law service to clients, such as multi-national due diligence projects, gender pay gap reporting and advising on national minimum wage investigations.
- Supervising and managing junior members of the team such as paralegals and trainee solicitors.
- Participating in and contributing to regular employment law technical knowledge training sessions and seminars.
- Adhering to and engaging with KPMG policies and procedures surrounding auditor independence and client on-boarding.

Experience and background

- The applicant will be an employment solicitor with a good range of training experience including an employment seat
- The applicant must have a high level of technical knowledge with regards to UK employment law.
- Familiarity with contracts and policies, due diligence reporting, redundancy/reorganisation/TUPE transfers, employment status, and holiday pay would be helpful. Familiarity with gender pay gap reporting, national minimum wage is also desirable, but not essential.
- In addition, a successful applicant will have the ability to get up to speed quickly on esoteric areas and be keen to continue developing his/her legal skills and engage in new areas of work.
- Strong project management skills are a must.
- While consulting appropriately on difficult issues, he/she must be able to deliver robust and appropriate legal advice and exercise sound judgement.
- The applicant will demonstrate experience of working with demanding clients across a wide spectrum of size and activities.
- He/she must be able to demonstrate sound client relationship and business development skills and a keenness to develop these skills further.
- The applicant should be a team player with an entrepreneurial spirit and be prepared to work in a different way to solicitors in traditional law firms.
Education and Qualifications

- It is expected that the successful applicant will be a qualified solicitor with between 0-5 yrs PQE and have trained at a reputable firm.
- Strong academic, technical, drafting and personal skills are essential.
