Job Description
The National Markets Data & Analytics team use advanced data analysis technologies and techniques to help our clients answer business questions and commercial issues.

The data analyst will work with the team to deliver solutions for our clients in a variety of areas of data management, analysis and modelling. They will develop expertise in a range of technologies and techniques, and use these to provide value-adding insight from our clients’ data assets. They will also be involved in developing data-driven technology assets in a variety of platforms.

Our National Markets business serves UK listed businesses, private companies and public sector organisations primarily based in the UK, and we are seeing significant growth in our work across this sector.

We recruit across four main areas of focus: Modelling, Data Consulting, Business Intelligence, and Advanced Analytics. The successful candidate will initially work across all areas of our team, giving them experience across many varied and exciting projects, and will specialise as they progress in their career.

The Role:

Reporting to the Senior Managers and Director of the team, the Data Analyst/Developer role involves:

- Client delivery
o Working in project teams to develop data analytics solutions for clients
o Data wrangling, including developing ETL routines, to prepare data assets for analysis
o Using data analytics tools and techniques to identify patterns, extract outliers, and perform analyses to address client problems
o Developing data visualisations to display analyses to end users
o Supporting projects to advise clients on all aspects of their data management
- Technical development
o Developing competence in a broad range of technologies and frameworks for managing all aspects of the data lifecycle
o Undertaking technical training to acquire and demonstrate expertise in data analysis
o Keeping abreast of developments across the data and analytics landscape, with the desire to translate cutting-edge techniques and technologies into our project outputs

The Person
This exciting role will utilise the candidate’s data analysis and programming skills. A core competency of technical skills and the ability to quickly develop expertise is essential, as candidates will be quickly involved in technical solution development in a broad range of areas.
Candidates should have experience working with data analytics technologies, in some or all of the following areas:
- Designing and querying relational databases
- Data management, including ETL and SQL development
- Data visualisation
- Data science/advanced analytics
- Modelling and forecasting
- Programming or low code development
In particular, candidates should have prior experience in RDBMS and ETL technologies, for example SQL, Alteryx, SSIS, Power Query, etc. A degree or professional certification in Data Analytics or Computer Science would also be beneficial.
In addition, candidates must be able to demonstrate a number, if not all, of the following skill sets and experience:
- Aptitude for analytics and identifying patterns within data to generate business insight
- Data manipulation skills - manipulating and cleansing large data tables to ensure that data meets standards and objectives
- Written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to explain technical analysis to a non-technical audience
- A desire to understand business problems and to evaluate the results in a business context
- High degree of personal motivation, ability to self-manage whilst being professional and personable
- Experience of solving issues and dealing with the uncertainty that can arise in project situations, including having a tenacious problem solving and can-do attitude
