Job DescriptionThe Role

The KPMG regional financial services corporate tax team is a fast growing part of the KPMG tax practice. We are looking for excellent candidates who are seeking a dynamic and challenging working environment within a strong supportive leadership team.

Whilst the role is within the financial services team, having previous experience of working in financial services or working on financial services clients is not required as the candidate will be trained on relevant areas of tax specialisation (e.g. loan relationship legislation) and wider industry issues as required.

The role would be Leeds based, and would involve primarily working with two corporate tax senior managers based in Leeds. There would also be the opportunity to work with other team members across the North, Midlands and Scotland. The wider regional financial services tax team also includes specialists from indirect taxes, operational taxes and reward taxes and the role would allow for interaction with these other areas of tax so the candidate obtains experience of areas outside their core corporate tax responsibilities.

The marketplace is diverse with a client and target base of challenger banks, building societies, wealth managers, insurance groups and other companies operating in the sector. The ownership structures are also diverse with clients including UK listed groups, PE backed groups, mutuals and inbound and outbound organisations.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter with a good level of core corporate tax technical knowledge and a confident outward facing skillset willing to invest time and effort in the marketplace.

Being a relatively small team there will be the opportunity to work directly with the Partner and Director group to give exposure to different issues and types of work. Also, due to the growth of the team there are excellent promotion opportunities and therefore there is a clear pathway for rapid advancement if the candidate is looking to grow and develop their career over the coming years.

The Responsibilities

The role involves a mix of tax advisory services and compliance management. This will include:

- Managing client relationships and becoming the focal tax point of contact.
- Understanding the client's business and identifying areas for the provision of tax and other services.
- Managing the tax compliance process (delivered by our Tax Centre of Excellence) and undertaking tax accounting work to assist clients with their statutory reporting process.
- Driving the tax advice on a wide range of projects.
- Managing teams and coaching and developing staff.
- Ensuring all risk procedures are adhered to.

The Person

The successful candidate will have the following skills:

- Qualified CTA or ACA/CA or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of UK corporate tax and an awareness of other tax and accounting areas. Previous experience within the financial services sector would be an advantage but is not a requirement.
- Strong interpersonal skills in addition to strong oral and written communication skills.
- High level analytical skills and a commercial approach to resolving issues and providing advice.
- Ability to work as part of a multifunctional team.
- Strong task and team management skills.
- Ability to build client relationships.
- Good computational and excel skills.
- Good technology skills.
