We have ambitious growth plans to expand from a team of 35 technology professionals to 90. We are looking for the right candidate to lead that growth, to shape our delivery of custom technologies and to ensure we make the most of licensed technologies.

The Role

You will help lead our transition from a primarily staff based model, to an automated platform business.
Working directly with the Director for Technology and Operations, you will have a key role in disrupting the tax business and reshaping our business for years to come.

Your primary responsibilities will be to lead a team of 30 developers (in India and Glasgow) and defining our standards across a diverse range of technology. Alongside this you will provide mentorship to a team of automation specialists delivering solutions in data analytics and robotic process automation.

You will be the primary escalation for all technical decisions, deep technical expertise is a must for this role.

We will ensure that there is some opportunity to keep your skills up to date, but the role is primarily to ensure that our development teams are empowered to deliver the best possible solutions for our clients.

Alongside the team leadership responsibilities, you will lead the architecture of our technology platform. You will work closely with our team of expert product owners to design cutting edge solutions and ensure the delivery of these solutions.

Finally, whilst there is no expectation of existing knowledge of tax, we would expect in time you to develop a degree of domain knowledge. You would be required to interact with your technical counterparts at HMRC as the government implements its own technical transformation strategy.

Our technology

Our core competency is the .NET development stack (C#, WebApi) and Azure cloud services (Azure Service Bus, Azure Service Fabric). We pride ourselves on delivering highly modular, testable, scalable, SOLID code with continuous integration and deployment to cloud environments. We follow agile methodologies and a Git workflow.

We welcome developers with experience in other environments (AWS, Google Cloud Platform) who are happy to bring their experiences on board. As part of our rigorous recruitment process, we’ll thoroughly test your ability to code and design scalable systems with peerless precision, quality and clarity.

As a member of the team, you’ll be expected to keep up to date with the tech field. We gladly sponsor certifications and training courses.

Essential Technical Experience and Skills
