Roles and Responsibilities - Financial, Business and Cost Modelling – Assistant Manager

The Role
We provide a wide variety of model build and model review services to our clients in a diverse range of sectors such as transport, infrastructure, communications, health energy / natural resources, financial services, leisure, retail and manufacturing.

Our modelling services include:

- model risk assessment;
- model assurance;
- best practice reviews;
- business planning and forecasting;
- deal modelling (buyside and sellside support);
- modelling financing/refinancing structures;
- modelling the impacts of business restructuring including options analysis, cost optimisation, outsourcing and other operational and financial restructuring;
- management and KPI reporting solutions;
- data analysis and presentation
- mergers and acquisitions, JVs, re-financing arrangements and Carve outs or divestments
- Pricing & profitability modelling/ Performance modelling
- Bid modelling / Bid Strategy.

We work closely with teams across all functions within KPMG such as Restructuring, Tax, Performance Management, Financial Management, Financial Risk Management, Internal Audit, Transaction Services, M&A and Regulatory and Compliance Services.
We work on some of the most exciting projects in KPMG, ensuring that financial models underlying key business decisions are rigorously tested and scrutinised for the benefit of lenders, investors, regulators and other key stakeholders thereby improving the overall quality of decision-making and enhancing third party confidence in the outputs. We pride ourselves on delivering high quality, flexible and bespoke analytics and modelling solutions for our clients.

The Person
We are looking for an Assistant Manager to join our team to work on a variety of projects including model assurance and model build. This role offers the candidate the opportunity to develop an extensive knowledge of Business, Financial and Cost Modelling across a wide range of sectors whilst also developing client-facing skills, project management skills and consulting skills. The role requires working to deadlines, prioritising workload, project management and providing a high level of client service at all times. The level of responsibility you will be given will only be limited by your own aptitude and willingness to learn and to take on new challenges. Previous experience in a financial modelling role is a prerequisite. Experience of a consulting or professional services environment, and experience of managing projects and junior staff would be advantageous.

Qualifications, Experience and Background

We are looking for the following attributes:
- A numerate (science, engineering or maths-based) first-class or upper second-class
- Holds the ACA (or an equivalent accounting) qualification
- Experience of building or reviewing financial models in a Financial Modelling role that required an understanding of financial and accounting concepts or project finance (e.g. debt structures, cash waterfalls, financial ratios)
- Advanced Excel Skills
- Experience in using VBA, SQL, Tableau or Power BI would be advantageous
- Positive approach towards problem solving, even under time pressure
- The ability to think through a problem and apply a logical, analytical approach to develop a solution
- Ability to describe complex technical issues in a clear non-technical way
- Initiative, enthusiasm and excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Strong analytical and interpretative skills
- Vigilance and sustained attention to detail
- Ability to quickly assimilate and apply new techniques and knowledge
- The ability to work and communicate as part of a team
- The ability to work in an efficient organised manner
