Qualifications and Skills

The ideal candidate would:

- Have at least 6 and preferably more years of experience in the utilities sector, water sector in particular, whether at a company, regulator, another consultancy or another stakeholder;
- Have a sound knowledge of water and other utilities’ finances and financial structures, including high leverage and other types of financing used;
- Have a detailed knowledge of Ofwat’s current regulatory regime and prospects (FPL) as well as its application, including detailed regulatory mechanics;
- Understand the wider water sector policy debate;
- Have a knowledge and experience with other regulated utilities in the UK, for example in the energy networks sector including the latest reforms under RIIO;
- Bring excellent report writing, Excel and Powerpoint skills;
- Be skilled in financial analysis, financial modelling and valuations as well as regulatory accounts;
- Be comfortable discussing economic and financial theory, with at least undergraduate and preferably graduate qualifications in economics or finance;
- Be comfortable and/or experienced in an external facing role;

The Role

- Challenge and review all discrepancies with Partners / engagement Managers.
- Ensure all time charged is valid
- Monitor the budgets of the specialists and challenge when budgets may be or are exceeded
- Take responsibility for producing a billing schedule for the client as well as producing all related fee notes, inter-office notes and fee allocations.
Independence and Compliance (including Sentinel)
- Liaise with client's Group Secretarial to keep Sentinel database of corporate structure accurate and up-to-date
- Carry out initial screening of submissions, including approval of clear acceptances
- Daily discussion of subjective decisions and meeting weekly with the Lead Partner to discuss pending requests and how we are in line with the pre-approval limits. Also approve the requests on his / her behalf
- Periodically request local audit teams to provide information and update Sentinel database
- Prepare a quarterly report of all fees billed (globally) for audit and non-audit services for submission to Audit & Risk Committee
- Manage the process of requesting and receiving audit and non-audit fee returns from local audit teams
- Manage the independence confirmation process for overseas and UK teams, ensuring that the management team is aware of all potential breaches that may need to be reported to the Audit & Risk Committee
- File and log correspondence related to pre-approval and independence.

Client Service
- Be part of the client service team and contribute ideas for improving the account management process
- Be aware of and respond to client service opportunities. Maintain the client service team contact booklet and keep it updated regularly
- Consider developing new client service / branding initiatives
- Attend quarterly CST meetings - maintaining database of actions and initiatives, managing resolution.
Management Support and Office Management
- Act as personal assistant to the management group in all matters related to team
- Arrange global travel for Partners, Directors and Managers
- Manage introduction of all staff joiners to team. Distribute joiner briefing pack setting out organisation charts, team structure, facilities, IT and timesheet information. Review joiner pack content on a regular basis updating information as necessary
- Develop a network of appropriate internal KPMG and external client contacts to ensure that services are delivered efficiently using the most appropriate resource
- Ensure that external client working relationships are maintained to a high level of professionalism • organise regular social events for team
- Organise the filing system (both hard copy and electronic) to support the audit
- Look after client site facilities, including client site security passes and maintaining satisfactory stocks of stationery at client premises
- Act as first point of contact for all KClient users
- Assisting in the preparation of Audit & Risk Committee presentations using Powerpoint.

Qualifications and Skills

- 5 GCSE's/O'levels including Maths and English
- Have strong project management skills to enable identification of required tasks and deadlines and planning and prioritisation of these tasks in an appropriate manner
- Have strong interpersonal skills
- Possess strong oral and written communication skills

- 3 years of references available on request.

Sitting within Forensic, KPMG’s Economics & Regulation (E&R) team comprises nearly 50 experts. As part of E&R, our fast-growing Competition Economics team provides specialist competition advice in the context of market inquiries, mergers, abuse of dominance cases, vertical and horizontal agreements, State aid and disputes to clients in the UK, the EU and beyond. Our economists have top level academic qualifications, ongoing academic research and a track record of practical application of cutting-edge and innovative theoretical and empirical economic techniques in high-profile cases.

Roles and Responsibilities

We are looking for outstanding economists to join our E&R team, and in particular in the area of competition economics.

The successful applicant will play a key role in our sales’ efforts. S/he will build and maintain effective relationships with clients and will be able to discuss the wider KPMG offering with them. S/he will also quickly develop a strong internal network with KPMG experts in related fields or based in other countries. S/he will identify and act on business opportunities, both with existing and new client relationships.

Crucially, s/he will play a pivotal role in running projects and maintaining the client relationship with minimal supervision from Directors and Partners. S/he will have a major role in ensuring that any client work will be delivered to the highest standards in both content and form.

Depending on the nature of the assignment, s/he will manage project teams of two to twelve people, fostering a collaborative spirit and culture of respect. S/he will maintain a positive attitude when the team is under pressure, supporting other team members when they face challenging situations.

S/he will challenge established ways of working and thinking, developing innovative approaches. S/he will assess the wider risks and wider impact of different scenarios to both clients and KPMG itself. S/he will implement procedures to achieve sound compliance and prevent deviation from professional conduct.

S/he will also be involved in the management and the development of the E&R team as a whole, including contributing to our recruitment efforts, performance appraisal, mentoring and thought leadership.

Qualifications and Skills

- Top academic qualifications in economics, with a focus on industrial economics and/or microeconometrics, from a leading institution, at least at MA/MSc level (PhD desirable but not essential).
- Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing.
- Perfect command of English. Fluency in other languages preferable but not necessary.
- Significant experience and/or qualifications in quantitative techniques/econometrics.
- Knowledge of competition law and/or regulatory regimes highly desirable.
- An ability to work to tight deadlines and budgets, on multiple projects simultaneously, and to produce deliverables of consistently high quality.
Experience and Background

- Solid experience as a competition economist gained in a consulting firm, in a competition authority or in industry, including at least three years in a senior role, with proven experience of leading high profile engagements.

Within the FS Technology Risk team, our work involves providing consultancy, assurance, advice and attestation to clients on their IT systems and processes. Management of specific value added assurance services to financial services clients

- For half of the year (c 6 months) lead the external global IT audit of flagship banking client
- Co-ordinate global and UK IT audit teams
