About the programme

Our Business Technology programme is designed to deliver the client exposure and core consulting skills you need to get your career off to a flying start. Developing technology and commercial skills together with business acumen, you’ll help us to deliver real value to our clients.

As a graduate, you’ll join our London office and follow a structured programme that offers the chance to work with a range of clients within your Line of Business and gain experience of our technology. Highly diverse, this work will span the delivery lifecycle, from project shaping and initiation through to technical delivery and benefits realisation.

During the programme, you’ll also undertake a number of structured training modules designed to hone your productivity, technical and business skills. As you progress into your second year, your performance manager will work with you to identify and agree your development goals and tailor any additional training requirements you might need.

In addition to the structured programme, KPMG will provide you with plenty of support and a blend of development opportunities to help you reach your potential – including client work, technical qualifications and skills training.

Key Skills Required

People who excel within Management Consulting are passionate about continually adapting their skills and knowledge to find solutions that meet our clients' needs. We also ask for a keen interest in IT and business issues, as well as good communication skills and the desire to take on early responsibility. Candidates should also be highly organised, efficient and comfortable in their ability to meet challenging deadlines.

You don’t need to have a technology degree to join, however, a keen interest in technology is essential, and an element of technology in your degree would be ideal. That said, a number of our graduates have had no formal IT background at all. More importantly, you’ll have an appetite to learn about IT and a desire to get stuck in!

Your first role may be client delivery focused and will offer opportunities to learn and apply the latest technologies. You’ll be expected to quickly pick up essential information about the firm and industry that you’re working in, as well as the basics of technology consulting.

Joining the IT Advisory Service Line in one of our Lines of Business (LoBs) – Financial Services, Corporates or Public Sector – you’ll benefit from formal training, on the job mentoring and self study to grow your knowledge in Business Technology. Our Requirements

You must have technical programming skills for this role, for example, experience within development methodologies or mainstream languages.

The Role

As an Applications Architect you will take a lead role in projects by owning the delivery or evolution of the Architecture to suit the purpose and outcome of that project.

Job Description
The Role

UK Local Support team exists to ensure that customers throughout the UK receive a service which allows them to make the best use of Information Technology. Situated geographically across the UK the team are the “face” of IT Services to the internal customer and provide support to all areas of the business.

Significant travel between the London and Watford Office is required in this role.

Responsibilities

The individual

- Minimum - O’Levels or GCSE equivalent. Good overall knowledge of IT. A+ and hardware accredited for desktop & laptop (Dell and Lenovo but should qualify for any other PC makes required by the firm).

- Will have worked within a Customer Services environment and been involved in relationship management. Good all round knowledge of IT and its use within a business environment for a minimum of 1 year.

The work covers advising on:

- the governance of tax – setting an appropriate tax strategy which is then embedded in the business with the processes and controls needed to ensure that tax risk and reputation is managed and the tax function is designed to deliver the strategic objectives; • managing tax compliance and reporting – including advising on sourcing options and managing relationships with HMRC and resolving disputes as well as delivering global outsourcing projects; and
- implementing technology solutions to deliver efficiencies and manage risk.

Services are provided to clients across all sectors from the largest FTSE’s or inbounds to mid market companies. The range of activities covered is broad with some members of the team focusing on particular areas. This service line has become a focus area for companies as tax administrations have moved towards a risk based approach and companies’ tax profiles and reputations have come under increasing public scrutiny. Our team works with clients to ensure their tax function is efficient, effective and fit for purpose.

Role and Responsibilities

The candidate will be responsible for managing the delivery of work across a portfolio of clients on the above types of services and will work as a member of client service teams to deliver specialist advice. The candidate will play a key role in winning new work by identifying opportunities and taking a lead role in proposals and developing the offering to clients.

Key responsibilities of the team include:

- Advising clients on establishing an appropriate tax strategy in
the current tax environment, including how to embed this in their business with the appropriate policies, processes and controls;
- Advising on tax function design – advising on the tax strategy and vision and then how the tax function should organise itself to deliver the objectives;
- Assisting clients to develop or strengthen their tax control frameworks;
- Assisting clients to develop and embed Tax Risk Assessment processes to identify, assess, mitigate, monitor and report tax risk;
- Designing and improving tax processes, often across all areas of tax, conducting client interviews and producing high quality, clear and comprehensive process maps;
- Advising clients and internal colleagues on compliance with the Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) legislation and HMRC’s approach, including designing and delivering process and control remediation projects;
- Delivering projects to provide greater transparency around tax reporting, for example, 1) managing voluntary data collection projects and advising on how the data should be disclosed (in the accounts and / or stand alone reports) and how the tax position should be articulated to stakeholders; 2) complying with legislative requirements (such as the Dodd Frank legislation);
- Advising clients on how to manage their relationship with HMRC including advising on HMRC risk assessment processes and dispute resolution processes and options;
- Building an awareness of KPMG’s market leading technology tools across all taxes sufficient to identify how our solutions can address client’s business issues.

Qualifications and skills

- ACA or CTA qualified with a minimum of 3 years post qualification experience

Experience and Background

The successful candidate will have the following skills:
Technical skills and experience required
- Deep technical understanding of the SAO provisions;
- Practical experience of delivering SAO projects, including process and control remediation projects;
- Practical experience of designing and implementing tax strategies;
